Post MPXPLay - freezes w/o Video Card

    Hello All -

When I run MPXF w/ MPXPlay on my DOS-based P120, it works fine - as long as a video card is plugged in (such as when I'm debugging/adding files in the house, etc.). But when I take the video card out, MPXF still works fine, but when it goes to play, my LCD remains totally blank and the computer is frozen (I can tell this by my inability to change the NumLock status light). Does anyone know what the problem is? Any help would be appreciated.

I was told by the programmer of MPXF that MPXFTSR (the part of MPXF that controls LCD display during playback) actually looks at the video card's buffer (memory) to do its LCD routine ... and there's no way around it. So, basically I was told that as long as you're using MPXF, you've got to have a video card. As for if you need one for just running MPXPlay, I don't know ... it has never really been an option for me, although I'm thinking about writing my own frontend in Quick C if this is true.

What options are passed to MPXPLAY? the program goes directly to write in the video card memory to do the displaying. Even if you told it to not show the spectrum analizer. I don't know if telling it to show nothing would work without a video card, but then you would not have nothing to displya in the LCD with MPXF.

the later versions of MPXPLAY have some LCD support built in, perhaps that could help.
