Yo,
I completely agree with you. I am also very curious to find such a program.

I have found several keypad control plugins that allow changing tracks and such. However I'm not going to pile all my mp3's into one playlist that is just a mess. It would seem more logical to have a playlist setup for every album, and then have the ability to dial in an album, like my 200 disc cd changer. I would like to hit the / key for instance, then enter a 3 digit number that corresponds to the album I want. This seems like an obvious feature but no one seems to impliment it. I found the ccon.dll plugin which allows loading of playlists in this manner, however it only allows 1 digit! (total of 10 playlists). Anyone know of a plugin like this, or who can make one? Also instead of volume up/down for 7/9, I would like next/prev playlist. Volume control is pretty dumb, most people have that on thier head unit anyways, with a more convenient dial control.

Guys - if you got the time, I might be able to come up with something for you. I'm learning Visual Basic at work, I already know some C++ and old BASIC (although never programmed in a Windows environment until now).
If all that you want is to be able to input an "album number" that's 3 digits long, heck that should be real easy. Basically, if you label your playlists say by these numbers when you create them (maybe on a computer w/monitor), so that you have like 111.m3u or 379.m3u ... it's just a matter of running WinAmp with that in the command line (like "c:\progra~1\winamp\winamp.exe 111.m3u"). I know how to at least do that much already (hehe), but don't have the software here at home.
I guess, could you better define exactly what it is you want? If ALL you need is to be able to enter a three number code, I could probably rig something up for you in the next week or so. What I don't know much about is communicating with the LCD ... although I believe I saw an ActiveX control laying around somewhere on a website to do that.
The Instant Disc Program will let you jump between playlists using any keys you want. I use this plugin along with the MindTwist Joystick Plugin and get all the controls I need.
Instant Disc is at http://www.ludd.luth.se/~walle
MindTwist is at http://www.mindtwist.com/
Hopethat helps

I use a USB Gravis GamePad Pro, I have an i-opener so that was about my only option. There is a company that makes a gamepad that connects through the PS/2 port if anyone is interested, I can't remember the link but if someone wants it I can try to find it
Thnaks for the gampad info. I just saw that pad on sale at BestBuy for $20.

Actually, I posted an idea kinda like this awhile ago. My idea was to basically use the keypad like a telephone pad with each number representing 3 letters. Then you could kinda do it like whoever you want. Would be even cooler if you could make it four letters. The first two letters representing the first two letters of the band and the next two representing the letters of the album.
Or I could be possibly making this way too complicated than it needs to be,.
