Post I'll give it a try...

I found in www.planetsource.com a dll capable of decode MP3 files, not requiring Media Player nor Direct X. It just decodes MP3 straight to the sound card.

So I'll bite the bullet and make a front end for it to be the guts in my install. I'll do it in VB 6 (or if I dare in VC++). As for functions of it, I plan to include support for my 40x4 Parallel LCD, a custom 5x4 keyboard, Volume (Trebble & Bass also) search of songs/albums/artists the tipical random and perhaps genre selections.

Maybe somebody could help me with the LCD routines, and also suggestions are wellcome. I'll try to make this thing to fit my current processor for the car (P133) so it will adhere strictly to play MP3 and search for them.

Why? well, I don't really understand it completely, but a few weeks ago I read a post here from somebody that said he did some piece of software for something, and then another guy replied with something like
"It's nice to see that somebody is trying to innovate, and not just gluing pieces" and I felt a little hurt in my pride.

Besides, I don't like the way MPXF (or whatever) handles the keys and searches, nor using WinAmp with plugins. So I'll put my own idea of how I want to say "play all the songs from this artist, randomly" or to "handle a new CD inserted in the drive", etc.

Also, I'm not re-inventing the wheel, the dll I found IS the wheel, I'm re-inventing the drivetrain perhaps...

i'm just sayin that link takes me to a weird funky site. nothing to do with programming or dlls..

hey i like your spirit... i get fed up with all these winamp/win95 setups too. very unoriginal, but i don't have anything against it of course. I took xaudio myself and created a dos mp3 player. it's working great. good luck on yours!

Which section did you find it under. I have been looking for a mp3 dll for a while that is free. Everyone I have come across all want some high price for the dll that only decodes MP3s.

It's in the Visual Basic section, I don't recall the name, but use the search function of the site in the VB section, ask it to search for "mp3 dll" and you should fint it. The desciption syas that it is a front-end for a dll he made some time ago.

Perhaps what I exactly don't like is the way the menus impose over the playing song when you search, also I'm having a hard time making my custom keyboard work with the software, and also I exhausted the money I put aside for the project (My first prototype was stolen the day before I were to install it)

And after all that, my first attempt was to do exactly that, make my own MP3 software, but couldn't figure out the MP3 decoding part.

But then, what surprises are awaiting me with MPXPF (or whatever, I can recall the name)
