Lightbulb hmmm any command-line args for gps software?

anyone know if ANY gps software runs also with command lines??? (many of you probably know where I'm going with this)

You know long ago where I asked if anyone knows of a mercedes-like gps software where you move a cursor to select from an alphabet to slowly select and click letters to type out the names of cities, street names, and states... (very much like typing out your name on a playstation game or typing in a password for the original Metroid on the NES)

What if someone did (I know I know this is overdone) a FRONTEND using VB to display the entire characterset for someone to use either a mouse or cursor keys (or keypad) to click on things one by one, and then when "enter" is selcted, VB will run the command line (and minimize itself hehe) to play out the mapping software to automatically map out a route from your current location as indicated by the GPS module. When the route is driven through and the user closes the program, the VB program can "restore" its window size or close entirely.

This can help avoid having the entire mini keyboard in the car... still very cumbersome, hard to hide, and if wireless, the batteries die in winter and cold weather.

    just a thought

    Cool

Phat: i seriously doubt it. The only way is to HACK it. And yes it can be done, i stumbled across a scenerio i tested the address search feature in MS Streets and Trips 2000 and it worked but never implemented it into CobraII.

My approach is slightly different. Since i have a TFT screen, i need their map and app. The trick is to hack their app and control it which ever way I want. YES, i can search for streets and stuff, but for now, i never implemented those features until ppl start requesting for it. I just did the minimum.

it wouldn't require much hacking... you can just use window handles and messaging.

try running the program while running Spy++, i'm sure you will see what i'm talking about.

Why wouldnt you just open Character Map, click on the letters using the mouse, copy it, go back to your GPS software and paste it into your start/destination address.. I think taht would work well.

Well, that was the inspiration to this, but the thing is... its so small... and theres soo many characters mapped out... so even if you increase font size or decrease resoultion to make the characters look bigger on a NTSC screen, it wouldn't all fit, and its annoying to have all the extra characters lying around
I mean I'm getting picky here, but if it can be better, why settle? ;-P

    peace,
