I think you shouldthe OS optimization forum.... it has been dealt with about 56 times...
Just trying to save you from flaming!![]()
just want to hear other people's approaches and results.
my shutdown time : none
I use a laptop and changed the power management setting to make the computer go into standby mode 10 minutes after losing power.
my boot up (startup) time : 3 seconds
the laptop comes back from standby mode in just 3 seconds.
This is a very simple approach and I'm happy with the results. Obviously this approach only applies to laptop carputer users. I have seem many threads about nLite, minLogon and XPe tweaks. They seem like a lot of work, just wondering if they are worth the time?

just want to start a thread where people can post their results and methods. I have yet to find a thread where people post their boot time / shut down results only. Some people posted their results but those posts were mostly buried deep in the thread. Just trying to save people some time if all they want to see is the results.Originally Posted by RoyN
wei2cool, search the other threads... this has been discussed 56 times because everyone just wanted to start a thread saying what bootimes were, but then people start asking how you got that time, etc, etc, it never works out...
best to just search for the data in the OS Optimization forum...
please post your time and methods rather than post something completely off topic.Originally Posted by RoyN
Like I said, i have yet to find a thread where many people post their times. If you know it has been discussed 56 time, please provide a link or two to the threads.
The reason why I started this thread is because I DID SEARCH through tens of threads and hundreds of posts with very little success on getting people's times.
Hmm... this is in the wrong forum.... should be in OS section...
I have a Athlon 1.3 @ 1ghz
512mb ram
dedicated OS / Soft HD
I get about 1 min from cold boot, due to long time between when the desktop shows up initially and when the frontend starts to run...
about 15 seconds for hibernate return.
I need to nlite it well, and apply minlogon, and possibly HORM to get it all down... again more info on all of that is in the OS section
Dude, why are you being so ******* difficult?Originally Posted by wei2cool
There's an entire forum devoted to OS Optimization, including tweaks for fast startup/shutdown.
This thread is in the WRONG FORUM.
If you want to know what everyone else does to achieve speedy startup & shutdown, post this in the proper forum.
Also, most people have applied many tweaks to their systems, including BIOS settings, registry hacks, component removal, etc. That's not counting the people who have attempted minLogon, XPEmbedded, booting from CF, and so on to achieve faster results.
I'm really sorry that you don't want to read a ****load of posts to find what you want. But realistically, it's what you're going to have to do. Most people aren't going to add to your thread the number of hacks they've made to their systems when they've already posted it elsewhere.
Thats what I thought... but since no one else had backed me up after my initial responses I figured that maybe I was being a dick...
After 1300+ posts I guess next time I'll give my gut-feeling more credibility about posts like these...
You're wrong RoyN, it's been discussed 58 timesOriginally Posted by RoyN
