Dead Reckoning for GPS Software?

Does any current GPS software support dead reckoning? Most of the installed nav units support this...but nobody seems to have PC Based software that'll do it.

For those of you who don't know what i'm talking about, dead reckoning bases it's location on the GPS, then, compares GPS to readings from the car to always know where it is, so if the GPS dissapears, the car can continue navigating. Usually this requires a gryo to sense turning (could use an accelerometer), a tap off the car's speed sensor wire, and a tap off the reverse wire (so it knows it's going backwards). My factory GPS had this, and i'm kinda missing it with the amount of overpasses and trees around here.

I'd specifically be interested in something like this for iGuidance. There's a thread in the Newbie section that has a 2-direction accelerometer that could be used for it..which would be awesome.

Any ideas? Or am I dreaming too far ahead?

There isn't any software that I'm aware of. I do know that Scouse Monkey has been working on or has thought of working on the hardware part of it.

indeed.. I thought it would be ncie to soem hoiw emulate faster GPS intervals..

to sort of get a psuedo 5hz refresh or something.. but I think this would require some hardware or connection to OBDII .. but with my GPS roof mounted I only loose signal under tunnels and parking garages..

but if worse comes to worse I have my wife get out the red crayon and a map and draw me a line as we drive ..

It's just annoying that car nav systems have done this for a while, but nobody's porting it to pc! All the computer needs is current speed and rate of turn, and it could figure it out...

Or you can find an OEM GPS module with dead reckoning build in for $200.
