    Gps Software Developing Anyone? Help!

    Hi!
My very first post in this forum!
I have an IPAQ (pocket PC) which I use for navigation and I want some help with the development of a small program to be used as an interface between the longitude/latitude parameters of the GPS receiver and the mp3's loaded in the IPAQ. Anyone with experience???
    Thxs in advance,
    Cologne

P.S. Great forum this one, I feel already addicted…

Well, one of them is your second post.
There is no need to post the same thing multiple times in multiple forums.

Are you trying to have the iPaq play a certain song when you reach a specific latitude/longitude? So one song will play when you arrive home... Another will play when you arrive at work... Another when you reach your favorite restraunt and so on?

Or do you want to be able to log what song was playing when you were at a certain latitude/longitude?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

    DarquePervert,

Many thxs for the reply! You are right in every sense, I only noticed the number of my posts had changed to "2" after reposting my message - wasn't sure whether it should be in GPS or SOFTWARE category so I did both. As a newbie [this is my 3rd post only, if I count correctly :-) ] I hope I can be forgiven...

To the point now, your first assumption was absolutely correct, this is what I want to implement and I am very glad you got it because a couple of times I have tried to explain to my brothers or friends for instance they never understood! To be more specific, I am thinking of having a few mp3's saved on the Compact Flash card of my IPAQ (easy way of changing them often) and have the lon/lat parameters define when each of them is played. By the way, the IPAQ would be connected via a 3.5 jack cable to the AUX input of my car audio...
Could you assist in any way or point me to the right direction?

    Thxs for your interest!

Sure, as long as you don't do it again.

I'm not a programmer so I don't know how to do it. I was trying to clarify your intentions so someone who may know how to do it can help.

I don't know what language you want to write this in. If you are doing it in .net the OpenNET compact framework (http://www.opennetcf.org/CategoryVie...?category=Home) has at least serial classes, I think they might have some GPS classes. OpenNETCF also has an audio class so I think you can play music with it. If you don't use .net then I believe you have two choices: eVC++ or eVB (embedded c++/visual basic). I am no help with those two options however

How are you using your GPS receiver? If you have GPS software running on your PDA, then this will have the com port to the receiver already open, in which case you won't be able to retrieve any GPS position information from another program.

Curiosity developed a program that forwards NMEA information to multiple com ports. You would have to do something similar for PPC.
