Cool Nice front end which works very well.

Has anyone considered Cyberlink Power cinema? It is a really solid front end made to look like Windows Media center PC. Large icons, easy navigation, not a lot of features but plays music, movies, DVD's, and picture show. Even has a crude web interface. I will post some screen shots so you can see what I mean...

    Umm, lets see.

    It's not good cause
    It costs Money
Has no provisions for Navi that I can tell
Not Skinable, from what I can tell
Looks like it was designed to be used with a remote, and not a TS
Oh ya, and it costs money.

There are some great Front ends here, all free. I have personal affection for FP and RR. Then of course, there are like 10 others. What do you feel you are missing with those Front Ends that Cyberlink has?

I haven't heard anyone mention using it. Probably because it's $79 and has fewer features. Many of the front ends here are both free and completely customizable to the car environment.

I know what you are saying, no need to be rude about it. But for me, this would work just as well and I didnt have to buy it either....

Well, I understand it is your opinion that you like it...

however coming here and saying "Nice frontend which works very well" sort of implies that it is the holy grail, and that what we have here (real car frontends) do not work "very well"...

I have found that for Audio, Video and Pics all or most of the frontends even the most crude ones work REALLY well... probably better even than this in the car environment. The problems start to come in when a few hundred features are add

I dont think anyone was trying to be rude, but your thread is really of no real enlightment for most users, hence I think everyone who reads this, and mostly those that comment are kind of saying "WTF, this isn the holy grail!"

First, I wasn't all that rude, perhaps a little.

Second, You are new here, currently with less then 20 posts, and you come here and attempt to extole the virtue of a front end, that when viewed by me, who has been here like 2 years, and probably others, who have been here a while, it is missing so much, and is totally not optimized for a Touch screen.

Yet you, who has SOOOOO much experience in the carputer enviroment and community, think this is a good product. Perhaps if you had come here as a Noob, and said, What do people think of this product, I might have been nicer. Instead you declare it is a great product. What a crock.

Third, do you by chance work there. You extol it's virtue, on one of your first posts, and then you imply that you got the software for free.

    Software Evaluation

First off, thank you for being genorous enough to offer your time in suggesting and testing this software as a front end. I agree that it might fulfill the needs of some users. Im sure wiredwrx wasnt trying to be rude.

Here is my evaluation of Cyberlink PowerCinema:

Initially the program wouldnt install on anything but a windows xp computer.
It would only install when the computer had only Windows Media Player 9.0
I went through a huge hassle rolling Media Player 10 back to 9.
As far as getting the software for free, you can download a free trial.
The initial navigation menus are large and comfortable on a touch screen, and the picture slideshow had some nice transition effects that you could choose, But once you started to play video, music or the slideshow, the media controls such as fast forward and next and previous track buttons were uncomfortably small for a touch screen. Once you got into sub directories of files, the line items were also uncomfortably small for a touch screen as well as hard to read the words. I also found that it ran somewhat slow in loading one screen to the next when navigating the hard drive folders.
No external applications or navigation integration whatsoever, but for the user that just wants to do multimedia and nothing else, i guess it would be ok.
And No ability to skin this program; which makes it fairly unattractive.

When I first started thinking about putting a computer in my car, I had absolutely no idea that there was so much software available, and so many cool things that could be done, so this program may have appealed to me.
Lastly the $79.00 price tag is an extreme detterant for most people. ESXManger is a commercial product and is only $29.00 for their full version.

Again; thank you for participating and contributing to the community.

You're welcome, and you are right about it's downfalls. I am still trying to figure out which front end is best for me. My intial build is a Dell P2/400 laptop with docking station hooked into a touchscreen with full audio hookup. I realize it is wimpy by comparison but it has a strong audio board and for me is a good 1st system to cut my teeth on. I will be running Win2k pro of course, much faster to operate and being a network tech, speed is everything. I may have contradicted yself by using a slower laptop, but oh well, cant beat free.

Geez Michael, you are a little stressed perhaps? I dont work for them at all. I work in the construction trade to be honest. And if I insulted you in some way I apologize. I do however remember something about this being a free country and have a right to speak. I never said anything bad about you, your mother, or your family so try to keep it in perspective and relax ok? You need to get yourself a girl mate!

BTW where I get my software is none of your business. I am sure you feel the same in my shoes....
