    Front-End made in flash?

i'm thinking about making my own front end, simply because i want to be the person that made my front end, and say i did it all, plus i have specific taste...i'm rather good at computer graphics, and meh on programming, however i'm pretty decent at flash, and wouldn't mind expanding my knowledge there, however from a technical standpoint (not visual) would flash be a good application for a Front-End? or is flash not gonna run well or things like that?

    Any suggestions would be nice

and sorry if there already is a front-end that is flash based, or if this was mentioned before.

Ive never heard of anyone making a front end purely out of flash. Would you make flash just open a media player and gps and other stuff or would you make it the actual player? I am a professional web designer and I dont think I have ever seen flash set up to browse for songs and stuff like that. If you want to say you actually made the program, you should just find a front end you like and then skin the heck out of it.

Flash would be fairly universal to Linux, Windows and Mac which is in extremely high demand and just might be the perfect cross platform! if you could make it work. I hope everyone keeps an eye on this if you can accomplish this.

probably for the most part make it open up 3rd party units, but make it look like it was the same app...i'm not good with programming, so i doubt i can make this open source and all that good stuff for other people to work off of it...of course i'd give them my .fla files to mess around with, but its not gonna be open source for others to easily manipulate for themselves, its mostly gonna be for myself (sorry to sound selfish) but i just don't have the talent in programming to incorporate versatility like that. but yea, like a flash interface, with different app's embedded, like WMP embedded, and a GPS embedded in a frame within the interface or something, i haven't really planned it out too far yet, but i decided if it would be feasible, my main concern was speed, would a flash interface run rather laggy? or would it be fine?

well, it's not flash-based but I've been working on a XUL-based frontend. XUL is the XML-like language that Mozilla and Firefox use for their GUI. JavaScript is used for the actual "event" code. CSS is used for skinning which makes modifying things really easy. I've been talking about it for a while now over in the OS forum and I keep saying I'll post some sample stuff soon...I promise, I will!!! Anyways, it works really well. I only had to write a few "native-code" components in XPCOM (similar to COM objects) to control XM and some low level OS functions (like hibernate, shutdown, volume control, etc.). It runs in Firefox, Mozilla, or XULRunner (a stripped down version of Firefox meant for standalone XUL apps like mine).

well see, i don't know any of that stuff, as i said, i'm like...bad at programming and languages and whatnot, i'm fairly well off with the coding within flash, and have friends that are great at programming, but my main concern is about performance, will it run laggy?

I'm currently working on a total flash front end. It is definatly possible. Look into mdm's Zinc, it won't happen with out it, or something similar.

So far the performance is fine, need to test it on some slower machines I guess, but so far so good. Just need to get the embeding down.

Have any questions let me know.
