bands would love to release their albums for free. But they cant, marketing, CD pressing etc costs MILLIONS, thats why bands sign their lives away on a record contract, so they can actually put out their music and hopefully as time goes on they become more popular and can get another more lucrative contract based on their new found fame.

Smashing Pumpkins did this, release an album online for free. Cuz they are rich.

im sorry but no self-respecting musician can say they make music for the money. Its a welcome by product.

Goto mp3.com and see how many indie bands just want people to listen to them so they will goto their shows and make them more famous (not all indie bands, some want to stay indie)

People who pay for mp3s is their way of supporting the artist(s).

Thats fine with me. I just think its not money well spent. Buy 2 full albums from the iTunes music store and you have a concert ticket right there. Im not 100% positive on anything to do with musical contracts and the whatnot, but really unless you own the label your album is on, you dont get squat unless you hit Gold and Platinum sales because 1,000,000 nickels is something.

so basically you're saying you'll decide for the artist whether they should provide their product for free or not. while we're at it, I think I'll drive up to MD and decide for ZipLock that he should be offering his Mini-ITX boards for free, and then I'll decide for Armen that he should be offering his screens for free. As long as I don't get caught it's okay, right? I mean, screw them, right?

iTunes works best for me because of the browse option when viewing the library:
You can browse by artist or album or search on teh various attributes of the files in one search bar.

It's just a shame the font can't be increased, then I MIGHT consider using it in the car.

Currently, I only have full albums arranged by artist folders with album titles for subfolders. This works great with RR; however, Id like to have more iTunes-like functionality.

    Does iTunes have an SDK?

guino, I think this would be an excellent addition to RR.

You can browse songs by artist/album/genre in RR using the winamp library functions.. I have taken a quick look at the itunes SDK, shoudn't be hard to integrate it... but I have to find time to work on it (and there's a lot of stuff to do first)...

I personaly hate itunes, but I have a ipod and have all my music setup in itunes for that simple reason.
And all id3 tags are sorted using itunes.
So when put into winamp they become a right mess, so having itunes as a player behind the frontend would be perfect for me

I know you've got your priorities

How do I get to the winamp library functions? I haven't seen options for searching/sorting in RR.

Just make sure you have the winamp library installed, go into winamp options set the path(s) of files and tell it to scan the database.. then when you go into the audio browser in RR it will display three options to browse by Artist/Album/Genre ...

I would actually LOVE this, the awesome iTunes visualizer is a lot more efficient, playlists and library management is EASY as hell, the fact that iTunes remote is awesome with the ipod touch and iphone, when the friends in the back seat want to choose a song I just throw the iPod back there and let then take control, I just close roadrunner, open iguidance and let iTunes run in the background ... the iPod connects to the carputer completely automatically, works perfect every time. If someone could make the apple remote program with for winamp(like the same capabilities, browse/search the library quickly, volume, scrubber, automatic (bonjour like), I'd be a happy camper. I love winamp, I love itunes..
