    Gamepad interface code

    Does anyone have some example VB6 code (DirectX or otherwise) for interfacing with a usb gamepad? I've searched - no joy.

    Frodo has some. In fact he built a plugin that you might be able to use if you want your program to run of the FrodoCom network.

    Have you checked the MSDN guides for DirectInput?

    Tutorials on DirectInput should be readily available on the web. I believe VB6.0 tutorials and samples last shipped with the DirectX9.0 SDK after that they moved over to VB.NET

    Yes I saw all the DirectX examples, but they only mention joysticks. So a gamepad will be recognized as a joystick, correct?

    OK that makes it simple. Thanks for the help.

    BTW I want to use the gamepad to remotely control a robot. It's not a carPC - it's a PC car so it's sort of on topic. It will be something like this or more like this since I'm using an RC car as the base and mounting an EPIA on it. Control will be via WiFi with the gamepad on my desktop PC.

    Yes, gamepad is a "joystick" in DirectX.

    Don't forget that you must configure your gamepad in windows controlpanel first before "read it" via DirectX.
