Will your Frodo SAT X still be free?
This thread is intended to tell you about what I am about to release,
the cost, what you get, and why this is important.
I have made a new product, which I call the "Frodo XM Service",
It also comes with an example client app, and dll, the "Frodo XM Client"
The service runs all the time, and keeps information current. Developers
no longer have to deal with the backend, only the front end portion of
XM. This will allow front end developers, or hobbyist to add XM support
into their apps without embedding troubles, as it will all be native to their
app. The client app handles everything but XM itself.
The cost for the service app is $10, and that is paid for by the users.
Users shouldn't mind too much though, as the user can use several apps
with the service. For instance, I am releasing (all free I might add):
3 widgets for XM (soon) (Konfabulator, Kapsules, dotWidget)
FrodoXMMeedio (soon)
And a new version of FrodoSatellite RadioX using the service.
This along with netsuo pledging support for native XM in NMC using
the service.
The app handles hibernate and resume, and also has a simple emulation
mode for those developers without XM, so they can still develop apps and
test.
I will be adding Sirius support in the future as well, which will be a
$5 upgrade if you already have a license for the Frodo XM service.
(Or $10 standalone)
Example how this works:
User buys Frodo XM Service.
Now user can use any apps based off this service.
Devs base interfaces off of the client dll.
The service, does have a trial mode, unregistered versions
will work for 15 minutes at a time, and then exit.
Emulation mode does not carry this limit
So any questions ?

Bruno Speech Recognition - Advanced Speech Recognition designed to control any program. Extra support for FrodoPlayer and Winamp.
Yes, but the newest version will use the service.Originally Posted by FunkDaMonkMan
So if you don't want the service, you will need to use
the older one.

Looks very interesting.
So if I understand correctly (which I probably don't), this will run in the background of the carPC and make whichever frontend I choose to use run smoother with XM? Also, what will the widgets do?
Hell, at $10 I'll probably buy it even if I don't know what it does!!
Thanks for the ping, BTW.
Spent so far: $1,755

If done right, yes.Originally Posted by edrex
The widgets aren't really useful for carpc, but for home pc use, they
are great, just little apps that sit on your desktop and do stuff. Mine
will control xm, but there are hundreds of widgets out there for different
widget engines that do all kinds of things.

If you don't want your users to pay an additional $10 for your product with XM radio, you're welcome to use and manipulate my open-source VB6 XM class under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
Well the point of this is slightly different, this is a lot more simple thanOriginally Posted by Erorus
your class, and runs as a backgound app, keeping the data current and
fresh and available at any time. It's more of a backend and API, that the
developer does not have to support, that's my job![]()
