help recommend a front end for me :)

I've read a little about all the different front ends, and it looks like they all have their own advantages and faults.

    Here's what I'm looking for:
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Ease of use (as little menu navigation as possible, etc)

main functions will be playing mp3's with 3d visuals (and maybe divx movies) from a 40gig laptop hdd in a USB Enclosure, and playing DVD movies, and GPS navigation (Destinator 3).

IT MUST DO 640x480 (no questions!) ... and have big thick bold fonts...

in the future I want to get a scantool odb2 connector, so I'd want to get the gauges and whatever might be available.. i don't know how the skinnable odb2 program frodo was working on came along.

I like frodoplayer because how many features it has. I like the design of centrafuse ... it's very very sleek and sexy

Right now i'm running Meedio, which wasn't designed to be used in a car, but i've managed to get everything I want out of it. It fits my resolution, it has MANY MANY Skins, is VERY customizable, easy to use, has 3D visuals to go with the mp3's ... i even found a destinator 3 plugin for it

    Thanks for any info/suggestions/recommendations!!

Our recommendations are pointless. We will recommed what we like. Your gonna have to try out the frontends yourself to figure out which one fits your needs the best. All the frontends are different and you'll like some feature of one and wished they were in others as well. You simply going to have to download them and try them out.
I know with Frodoplayer you can have the skin set to any resolution by turning off the advance sceen settings. And you can change the fonts in any skin to the fonts you prefer.

neocar media centre i is great

There is a new version soon that has the best feature ever you wonder why no other frontends don't use it.

Only thing about NMC is there i no dvd support yet but you can load an external app

It also uses music by directories so there is no database or lists to maintaiin just put the mp3 you want in whatever folder

Take a look but all the frontends out here are pretty good and NMC can do 640 x 480 and have ther fonts as bold as u like

    recommendations aren't pointless to me.
I like to know what people think about different front ends. with so many choices, I'd like to know what makes you choose one over all the others. and I don't know which front ends were designed with 640x480 res in mind. I know a lot (if not most) were designed around the lilliput/xenarc widescreen touchscreens/etc..

Thanks for the information guys. keep em comin

Mobile Impact runs specifically at 640x480, has mp3, video, dvd, picture slideshow, Nintendo 64 emulator, will uses Freedrive or iGuidance GPS, Fully Skinnable, Playlist capable, and Future features will include an Organizer that downloads your Microsoft Outlook data so you can take it on the road, a Web browser, and eventually XM Radio.

I'm looking for a recommendation as well. I have an amateur radio APRS app (UIView, basically a mapping program) that I want to be able to kick off full screen, plus I need to start up my GPRS connection software when I need data and don't have WiFi available. Most of the buttons on the skins are fine but I would want to change the text label and possibly the icon on these buttons. I'll also use DVD, GPS (both a GPS monitor app and either iGuidance or other app, hopefully share map data with UIView), web, and to a much lesser degree music.

Both Road Runner and Frodoplayer look great and should do what I want. From my reading it looks like it's pretty easy to set up 3rd party apps under FP, maybe a bit harder under RR but not terribly difficult. In RR skins you can change the text, not sure about FP. I'd have to hack the skin pics to change icons.

Are my assumptions correct? Recommendations on which front end to try?

    Thanks,
