I have never seen anything like this.
Would be perfect for carputers.
I remember reading a long time ago when I first started here about a program that would separate the sound from different programs and send the sound to separate outs. Does anyone recall anything about it? I couldn't find any info searching here or on Google but I'm sure its out there somewhere.
The application of it for me would be to be able to send music to the front speakers of my car and DVD/Divx sound to the back speakers for my kids watching movies on the headrest monitors. Is there a better way to do that?
Thanks.

man i wish something like that was available.
The closest thing to what you want is when an application (rarely) lets you choose which sound card to pipe the audio through.
Something like this could be done though, if say an application was to create virtual sound cards (kind of like virtual com ports) and let you choose which speakers or which audio channels are enabled for that virtual card. Then in your audio player choose one of the virtual cards as your audio device. Would only work for apps that let you pick the device though, and you would probably require you to have true 5.1 support on your real sound card.
I dream of the day of a cheap zone audio setup with features like this added to the mix. I wonder if anyone makes multi zone sound cards?
Now im off to see the wizard.... google!
I keep hoping frodo will put a soundcard selector into FP so I can have it go to one soundcard, and have everything else go to the onboard soundcard on my laptop.
It kinda works if I change my default, start up FP, then change the default again, but if I stop FP, it starts using whatever the default is.

Would be nice. I've seen some little cheapo USB sound cards that are about the size of a flash drive, and just have 2 ports... (audio out and line(or mic) in) and they are around $20, so adding another hardware sound card would be cheap.

still need some way to force different apps to use different cards even if they don't natively support it though.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

yeah, if I pause or skip, it keeps with the same sound card, but if I stop, then play it goes to whatever the default is.
Would this work?!

I know nothing about programming...
Anyone have a guess as to how hard it may be to write a program that could do this?
