What do you do when the GPS isn't recognized at boot (have to plug and unplug - it is a powered hub)?

How about when it is recognized, the COM port it uses changes seemingly at random?

Well, I normally I just reboot, but once I tryed to unplug -> plug gps but it didn't help.

It seems that Xport3 is just unable to open the gps port in this situation.

No, gps port is always com3, it never change even if I unplug and plug device.

Stange thig is that if I just go standby, wait little time (10 or 30) second and then resume -> it usually work fine.

Hmm, exactly I just remember that yesterday it worked once after 30 mins standby, but it has never worked after 1 our standby time.

Question for curiousity. Is there NO way you can run two instances of compass? I ask cause i'd like to make a full size skin for RR, but also have a "mini" compass on the menu.skin. Putting them in different folders didnt make a difference

It doesn't help, Xport3 just fail to open gps port sometimes. If I open Xport windows there is not any nmea messages scrolling on bottom-bar and input port is not checked as connected.

Well, after playing a while, I noticed that sometimes it fail to resume from hibernate mode also, so maybee real problem is not actually in standby.

Curiosity, do you think you could do something for this?

This sounds like the opposite of the usual problem. With other apps you don't have to restart or reopen the GPS to get it to work and it always works? What model GPS do you have?

Hibernate and standby are about the same, and I think standby is easier really. Time shouldn't matter either. It's probably just random. So when it's not working, is there a little dot next to the input COM port and what happens if you change the input port to something else and then back?

That may be hard, but I'll see what I can do. The big problem would be the second set of registry entries for a second instance. Different COM port, window position, skin, etc.

Nope, sorry I didn't explain more detailed.

Port is not open all the time, I have just all of those normal problems like everyone have with usb-gps... So, it work fine only with these carpc progs which can handle these kind situation. I have used it last few months with FreeDrive without any problems.

Well, exactly sometimes, maybe only 1/100 times FD don't connect automatically, but even then I just have to select connect from menu and it's working again. I have thought that this is some bug in FD but when I think now again, it could be related to this somehow.

I'm just now working with RR's speed controlled volume and have run hundreds of tests during few day so that gps is connected directly to RR and I never got any problems.

Maybee port is some unnormal state and FD & RR will try to open it little bit later or sooner than Xport or then there is some difference how they and Xport will handle this kind situations.

GPS is named as microsoft, but if I remember rigth there is sirf inside it. It was bundled with Street&Strips ~half year ago when I was visiting us and just needed to some gps system to my rental car.

No, there is not that dot and nothing happens if I change that port to some else and back.

Once I disabled service, closed Xport and tryed to open this com port using some other program, but it was still locked. Well, I'm not sure how Xport should work in this situation, but I got a feeling that it's was blocked this input port. I'll test this again when it next time fail.
