Thread: Xport 2 and Compass... THE solution for hibernation

You will still need XPort. That just works in place of Compass. So start XPort, set your virtual ports and enable it (if you don't already have it set up) then run XPortLink and set its COM port to the GPS. It should all work at that point, and both will restart with Windows.

nevermind! This replaces COmpass, I see... I still need to use Xport. hrmm...

Im trying to test this out... the confi screen shows only 1 port (Com1 thru 32) I assume I need to select the port where the GPS is currently connected (in my case COM4 prolific virtual com usb driver). What would the ouput port be then? I don't get it. Or do I need to run compass too?

hehe, too slow! Great news. Sinse it works, I could probably integrate the two and make it a little simpler.

Actually I found a few things:

1) The NMEA stream doesn't get passed through XportLink unless I open the config, and click 'OK'. I think this should noy be necessary... as long as you startup XportLink, it should pass on the stream (but it doesn't!)

2) I don't think I like thw way XportLink is set to startup. If I understand this correctly, it will start up upon next boot, as long as it was running before resatart. Can you disbale this, and instead we will put it in Startup Items? Otherwise there is a risk that this thing will not automatically startup if something goes wrong!

Give it 6 seconds and it will start working on its own. When you reboot, it sort of does the same thing if it's not working. Just try it for a few days.

It does start sending the stream on its own after a hibernation. But it does not send the stream after a RESTART. I did wait for over 5 mins just to confirm. But then as soon as I open config and hit OK all is fine...

Cool, works fine now. My only request would be to address problem #2 above (post 26), and possibly to merge all into one app. Awesome stuff!!!
