I've written a small webcam app for testing if you want to try it out. It's in the zip file with the filter on the same page.

If people like it, I'll try to clean it up and add all the features needed to make this work in the car PC.

Very Nice! On my laptop inside it works great with a usb webcam! Unfortunately I cant get it to work in my Carputer (pretty sure codec issues, previews work..wont record , needs fresh os and everything else though maybe afterwards) but the overlay GPS in my carputer worked great in the graphedit preview, looks very nice and clean! Very nice GUI in Minicam by the way! Can you make the program appear on the taskbar?

Thanks! Yes, I can make it appear on the taskbar but have to use a normal size title bar. Many codecs aren't designed for real-time compression, so you'll have to try a few. A few that work are DivX and ffdshow(H.264), Indeo. The first XviD worked, but the newer one doesn't. Also, watch the CPU while recording. If it's pegged, you'll get dropped frames or probably error out within some time.

Great little program Curiosity top work as usual. Minor things, the tick box about having a preview while recording doesn't appear to do anything, it always has a preview.

Also with the GPSfilter can you check if the N/E/S/W corrilates to the bareings correctly? If it says 180 it should say S but its saying somthing like ESE or something. No biggie just happened to notice

Heh, yeah. I had just an integer divide for the direction and forgot to do it right. Ok, so I uploaded a new one just now. The MiniCam app has a normal title bar too.

I haven't decided on how to do the no preview while recording yet. It originally switched to a smaller window with some controls but was thinking of minimizing to a tray icon that blinks or something.

Cool, do we need to do an unregister and register of the filter for the baring issue?

That error means a dll is missing. Make sure DirectX.Capture.dll and DirectShowLib-2005.dll are in the same folder. I think those are the only 2 needed?

    nice work

I was just glancing around the web for some ideas for web cam video buffering and recording and stumbled upon this thread. Nice work guys. I read through about 10 pages and from what I gathered this program doesnt buffer video if I am correct. Please correct me if I am wrong. I downloaded the CaptureUltimate.zip and took a quick glance through. I read in one of your post curious that you are a little new to C#. You should try to put try catch statements at all events therefore you wont need the try catch statements in any of your functions. This will also keep the program from crashing. I'd be glad to help with any C# questions you have.
