it seems to crash when it is embedded..no error msgs..just "this program has performed an illegal operation..etc..do you want to send a report etc...(or something like this..)the standard error msg that windows bring up when a program crashes..
i run it today without embeding it..and it doesn't seem to crash

Strange. Have you noticed if it crashes instantly, when recording starts, when you tap to bring up controls? I wonder what the embedding is doing to it.

no it crashes randomly..most of the times minutes after embedding.. (when embedding ---> and then changing screens..- which causes minicam to be hidden).
and 1 more thing..my cam supports 640x480..but i can not find that in the drop down list.!

Just to add to Nomander, I get the same Windows 'this program stuffed up' error (send/don't send report thing), however not all the time almost rarely (usually early in the record, but I can close and re-open it and it will record for hours with no problem).

It looks like you're using different drivers on each PC. The laptop is probably using the Microsoft default camera driver. What camera is it and can you try installing the drivers for it? That should give you the supported resolutions and make it more reliable.
