curiosity, latest version didn't crash so far..not even once, it even displays all supported resollutions fine.. thanks for the buttons.
One question though..i tried to record at 640x480..at 30 FPS, (i know but my camera only supports automatic FPS setting) and it really takes like 90% of system resources..is the only available option a CPU upgrade? :) or will a special pci capture card help?
-
Mine does that too. I think it drops the FPS to the highest it can do. A PCI card would help with the speed since it has a wider bus, but then you need a new camera too. Have you tried it with preview disabled? That would help some. A different codec would help as well or at least setting it to the lowest quality possible. The GPS overlay also takes some power.

it is fine if i record woth 320x258 (or something) but it sort of takes a lot more in 640x480..which i like more (picture quality wise) as it can show licence plate numbers of other cars better i always have preview disabled

You could drop the FPS to 15 which is half the work of 30. Even if the camera is automatic, the rest of the components in the stream are working at the specified speed. 10 would be even better. Sure it won't look as smooth, but you'll get the resolution. The harder the CPU works, the hotter it gets too. That's another drawback of maxing it out.

but the camera only supports 30 FPS..at night it drops the FPS..if i choose 10 FPS you are saying the rest of the (software??) components will work at 10 FPS?
-
Yes. It should run at lower speeds. At night it's increasing exposure with a longer charge, but everything else is still running at the preferred speed.
-
It looks like I commented out the FPS setting code, so it's only using the default right now. I'll try to find out why I did that. :)
-
even if i choose a lower FPS the camera itself allways works automatically..what are the rest components you are talking about?
-
Download the new one that I just uploaded. It'll make more sense.
The rest of the components are the GPS filter, codec, preview and file writer.

I've been a long time capture! user, and I'm now trying out capture ultimate and minicam.
I like minicam, but I've never use Xport. It says on the webage: "Compatible with all GPS" but it does not recognize Garmin protocol? I am using gpsgate, but minicam does not pick it up NMEA from the com ports, does it?
It's really frustrating going through all those pages (since page 30?), but I think I'm learning something...I can get images from ultima capture! and capture through my remote desktop connection, but not minicam. Anyreason for that?
Also I'm using Logitech 9000 cam, can't find all the resolutions up to 1600x1200. I've recorded at that resolution in the past, no CPU issues, but I guess I would settle for something less, at 16x9 aspect ratio. [edit: nevermind, this issue only happens in the remote desktop mode: it shows 1600x1200 fine, not sure how it will record though, but I can settle for less easily--- I want the GPS data though!]
