i used to use gpsgate together with xport..not good..
the good about gpsgate is that the com port is Fixed. if you set it to com10 it will allways have com10. if no gps is found it will keep searching in com10.
port will search all ports for a valid gps if the set port does not have a gps connected..so if you have both programs running, sometimes xport will still the "mother" port from gpsgate..so, you have to get rid of gpsgate so you can use minicam..
with the latest xport everything is stable..

Well, getting close at least. It's probably supposed to just send window messages rather than run it. Maybe there's some kind of scripting that it can do?

I'm using FFDSHOW encoder, set to XVID (same as I used before with Capture!)..
It should have a filename to parse correctly. Mine's showing names like "F:\Videos\CAM Capture\.2009-09-09.02.37.46.avi" when I do that, but it's recording. Try adding a name to the end like "F:\Videos\CAM Capture\Capture.avi"

If I let it find one, it finds 6, 7, 8, 9 but not 10. After a restart, back to 8 again. I'll leave it at that, at least it sends GPS to Minicam alright.
It won't switch ports unless the port doesn't exist when it opens it, so I'm guessing GPSGate closes its ports during hibernation or restart. I was assuming it was like XPort. Is there any way to setup GPSGate as a service so it's not so slow to get up and running?

It's proving very hard for this work smoothly, but that's okay, I'll keep trying some more.

    1. Xport and GPSgate: well, the only way they can begin to work after a restart is to run GPSgate as a service. At first I tried to make GPSgate responsible for only one port, with Xport the others, but my NAV and roadrunner are not picking it up meaningful data (even though Xport reports connected and 3d fixed). I'll try GPSgate as service responsible for all ports, and Xport with only one port so that it can work with the cams next. Still, after 10 restarts, Xport sometimes do not see GPSgate port, and reports no GPS found. I hit find it, and THEN it finds it. Can he be made to keep trying automatically?

    2. Minicam cannot record. The only file name that does not get corrupted after opening and closing the properties is Capture.avi (does it have to be 8.3 name? I tried Minicamrecords.avi; it gets corrupted next time I open the properties page/restart the program), even then, if I hit record, it will get strange characters attached to it. And it does not record anything. Mind you, FFDShow encoder+capture or capture w/ gps does work.

It also does not embed well in Centrafuse. If I make it start when Centrafuse starts, it opens another instance (same size, embedded) when I click CAM inside Centrafuse. I close this instance, the original one with pictures appears. I minimize both, and BOTH windows are named Curioustech - Minicam 1 (!!!) maybe this is it, two instances with the same window name?). I would expect them to be Minicam1 and 2, or no 2 at all.

    3. Capture Ultimate/enhanced, i forgot the name; works well, but for the audio properties. I get lots of errors there, got try some more options for encoding. With no audio it records well, but the buttons on the right do not behave as expected. In particular if I start recording, then stop (not archive) and then set it to record again, it gives an error (directx etc. cannot be restarted or something like that, I'll take a note next time). I will try some more combinations next time, but I think this project is not finished anyway, right?

    1. There is a retry as long as the port exists. It also gets new device notifications, but I guess the GPSGate ports are created silently. Give this one a try: http://curioustech.home.insightbb.co...s/XPort137.zip It should check every 5 seconds. Hopefully it won't do anything weird.

    2. Filename corruption is usually a memory error. I'll look into it.

Two windows with the same name would have to be caused by running 2 at the exact same time. That may be what's causing a lot of your problems.

    3. I had a lot of problems with audio as well. I had to set the .ini setting to -1 to get it to run. It will record multiple times as long as audio is disabled.

I'll try this 137 version soon, thanks!

Have any idea why I would be running them at the same time? I'll try to redo my steps with it to see if it keeps happening again. Maybe tomorrow I can try to embed it inside RR/LSX Void.

Well, it worked! It is reliably connecting to the GPS now. So I guess even when GPSgate service doesn't have enough time to create the COM ports, Xport will try again and then use it. In no case after a restart or hibernation did it failed to see connect. So far so good then. Thanks, Curiosity.

Of course all this is for naught if I can't record the GPS info I want. I'm going to retest now Capture!, Capture with GPS and Minicam again.

Well, problems with GPS are gone, as for the cams:

    1. Original capture! Most reliable, no GPS info. I can record 960x720 @ 15 or @30fps easily, just some eventual hipcups (together with a host of other stuff) after weeks using hibernation w/o restarting (it does not start recording). I blame XP, windows needs the magical restart from time to time.

I also don't like that it has trouble starting "in the background" when the computer restarts (and it's set to start recording with previewing).

    2. Capture Ultimate! GPS info, it does start recording, it saves the file when you exit the program, however you can't archive, nor you can start/stop recording.

    3. Minicam: GPS info, nicer interface, does not start recording at all, but displays okay.

I really like the fact it's easy to change fonts on the displayed info, I'm using like 36 points high, 18 wide (ideal for me for a resolution of 960x720@ 30fps).

And that begs the question: Why have TPS or boost on your video?

Yes, you can do it but you'll have to write software to send to the interface.
