I have windows xp pro sp2.
I pop a dvd into the drive and it says I need the proper DVD decoder.
I get nvidia dvd decoder and install.
Restart.
I pop in the dvd... and it starts to play "unknown dvd" but there is no audio or video. My visualization actually comes up. The only thing that happens is the Chapters appear on the side bar... and the time elapses.
Ive tried a few dvds now... still nothing.

Anyone got a clue whats going on?

You will need to install a proper DVD software program. Original DVD's require a software decoder to decode the international information and protection. Windows Media Player cannot do this. That is not true. If he has the nvidia decoder installed properly, it should work fine.
Where did you obtain the nvidia decoder, did you buy it ?

Well... ummm. No. But I had a proper serial # and it installed fine.

While youre in here frodo. When I pop the disc in it goes to autoplay in FP... but I just get a blank screen. Im just guessing if I cant get it to play in WMP thats probably why it wont play in FP.

Well yes and no, FP doesn't use WMP to play dvds, but it is likely the same underlying cause. Likely the decoder is not fully installed. Shame on you

bah. any good freeware decoders? will this Media Player Classic have decoders installed with it?

No MPC I believe will not install decoders. I think it decodes internally.
The best bet is to buy a full set of decoders, or buy a program like powerdvd
or windvd like reddeath said, which will come with decoders.

ok i reinstalled the nvidia decoder and still nada in WMP or FP.

Using Media Player Classic the dvd works fine.

Really I could give a rats bottom about WMP... Id just like to get it working in FP.

If I get a "quality" decoder bundle should that solve that issue possibly?

EDIT: Will installing powerdvd get FP going? I saw in the FP forum alot of people use it.
