Okay, whatever you do, don't hammer Tred for double posting. It's been going on a lot lately and I don't think it's his fault.

    LOL

im just looking for someone who has better knowledge of JAVA, thus the post in the Software Development forum. i dont think this would be too hard to "fix" for anyone who knows a little about JAVA. I understand that some people might be too lazy to register in order to download the software and take a peek at the code. SOOO if someone would be willing to host this little gem i would be glad to send it to you

I did something similar just for myself using a software that ran on my carpc, a software on my webserver, and a webbrowser... it worked pretty well, plotted my position on mapquest, and updated my position every 1 minute when I was in the car with my phone. it reported my speed, location,etc...

I think it is prolly easier to wip somethign up from scratch than to port this.

what features would you like to see?

Didn't frodo and Brady already write similar apps this one. Instead of having a gps enabled phone, they used the info from the gps reciever to plot your location on google maps.

i would basically like to have this set-up send GPS coordinates to my email account or my personal server rather than the one the author offers. I dont like the idea of having my GPS position publicized.

im aware that there are some software which allow you to use the GPS receiver on your carputer. But i like the idea of how this is not reliant on the PC. which means i could also get a lock if the car is off. this would be helpful if they decided to tow it...

well, it is reliant on your cellphone, and if your car is towed i imsgine the phone wont be in it?

unless of course you get a phone to keep in the car, but in this case you could just get a standalone tracker

RoyN, I've asked this before with no response. Or at least not the response i needed. Could that software you where talking about report multiple cars locations? I guess i could write something to do that or modify something that you have. Do you have the source for the program you used?
Um, I guess this is where you put something witty.WITTY

What program do you mean? xBrady's? if so, then yes, it was multi-user capable, but isnt opensource, no...

as for my scripts/vb app, it is very raw and probably useless for anyone except for myself... I could give you the code (dunno where it is, gotta find it) but I dont think you'd like it (very sloppy, uncommented, proof of concept, inefficient, etc)... and it only worked for one user, but could easily be changed... it relies on PHP/MySQL for the server, and IE browser control and FD (or was it mapmonkey at the time? dont remember even!)
