    Does this makes sense?
yes i understnad the concept but even allowing each user to set his her tank size still makes entry to the system a bit hard

the problem is that on paper saying the tank has 15 to begin with is fine that might be the tanks capacity. but how can the user calculate with any accuracy whatsoever that they used 5 gallons or 3 gallons or anything for that matter all most of us have is a gas gauge which isnt a linear representation of amount of gas in the tank (see here)

I think the only accurate way would be flow meter which puts out impulses and you would count them, like 5000 pulses per gallon then you would always know how much fuel you used, then the system does not need to know the size of the tank.

Here is a nice little gadget.

If you are that worried about accuracy just make sure you fill it every time

I am not worried at all. I always fill up. So for me it does not matter.

i usually always fill up as well but if im on Empty and the station im by has some outragous price ill throw only a few bucks in so im wondering if theres a way to fix this in the inputs for the program easily

the problem is essentially find out how many gallons were used since the last fill
i wish i could make this a obdii program that can read the pulsewidth of the injectors vs the MAF and speed
unfortunatly thats not something at my disposal prototcalls formulas etc

The only way to do this is to reset your trip every time you fill up. If you don't fill up, you just enter the amount of gas and not the milage. Next time you do fill up, it will know exactly how many miles since the last fill up as well as exactly how much gas has been put in the tank since the last fill up.

    ...right?

    think so..

so if we had a box at every refill, to mark that its a fillup and the mpg was calculated only beteween fillups, that would be pretty acurate, wont it??

of course, we would loose the mpg per station and per fuel type, but personaly I don't really care about that stats that mutch .
