BMW IBUS interface program

Guys,

I've been playing around with the USB IBUS interface from http://www.eedesignkits.com to see if I can use my MID buttons that currently control the radio to control the computer. I was hoping I could send commands to the computer and maybe even display the mp3 song being played in the small screen where it currently displays the radio station.

I've been able to read/write to the MID the commands but I was thinking that once I remove the radio completely, and leave only the MID, that it will not work anymore. The reason I'm saying this is because it looks like the MID is pinging the radio, and I'm afraid that once I unplug the radio and the MID does not receive a ping back that it will stop sending signals.

Has anyone tried this? I know you wouldn't need to if you have a touchscreen but I was trying to see if for songs I could leave the lcd screen hidden away.

hey are you using an indash lcd..or do you still have your stock cd player..i got a question about hookin the ibus controller up if you still have the cd player

Hello, I think It will continue to work. The radio simply send some command to MID and MID send time to it.
Which software did you use to send command to MID?

I'm doing some simlar work in this field now and I've got a problem. I'm able to see ibus commands but I don't think I'm able to send them. I need to double check that I can send them. I've tried to simulate the up/down buttons being pressed via the ibuscomm interface, but nothing happens on the radio.

Is there any voodoo that I have to do? I'm using the car's amplifier you see and I need to tell it to stay awake. I've seen that there are messages from mid to radio every 10 seconds that I need to emulate when I remove the mid.

I've been messing a little, but to no avail. my project heavily depends on the ability to transmit down the ibus.

the kit I've got is the EEDesginkits usb version, and the ibusanalyser can see traffic fine.

i set up my ibus today
it doesn't work i'm not able to connect ibus.
i have win2000 installed on my carputer
ibus appears on com7 is that why my ibus doesn't work?

set the ibus ini file to use com 7!

it wasn't the problem
i tried also some premade ini's but no result
there is no connection between my pc and the car

how did u determine that?

try to force the comport to be com4. u may have to delete some other bluetooth port to let that hapepn.

Most of the ibus software out there is set up to work from com ports 1-4. When I was testing using my laptop, it would always come up as 5 or 6 - I had to get into the device manager and force it to 2.
