If I remember correctly VideoLanClient was born exactly to do this, don't know if the progra changed during the developing
anyone know of any type of virtual soundcard or any other software that would allow me to send "ALL" of the audio (not mp3 streams) from one computer to another computer over the network?
I would prefer the app to show up as a regular soundcard to windows with the output being sent to a client on another machine.
I know this is possible as most remote desktop software has the option to transfer the audio from one machine to the other with the desktop, but i do not want to see the desktop of the other machine, i just want to hear any sound comeing from the machine.
googled for a few hours trying to find something but the only things i found that were close to what sounded like what i wanted were for linux or unix or results for streaming music.
any ideas are greatly appreciated.
thanks

Open VLC. Go to File > Open Capture Device
Under 'Video device name' select NONE
After 'Audio device name,' refresh the list and select your sound card.
Mess with the config if you wish. Then select Stream Output, click settings and set up your server.
Only software that actually comes in a box has to think within it.
The problem is that what you get at the soundcard is uncompressed WAV data, and that's a *lot* of data to send over the network. You're going to need to compress it, and you're going to need to account for dropped packets and/or network delays, which is essentially what streaming audio does.Originally Posted by liquid_smoke
Theoritically, it should be possible to sample the audio out, compress it to MP3, and then feed that as input to icecast, at which point you could use any streaming media player for playback.
