Palm controlling INFO
Have no webpage to post this stuff,
New to the board but been hanging around a little over six months watching and picking up tips here and there. Any how, i'm working on my second mp3 player which is PALM controlled and it works fine once you've figured out thee maxium cable length for your computer. For software i use Winamp on a P133 running 95 ( 35 sec boot ) . Palm IIIxe with comport connection, Palm software, PalmAmp V2.0 (unregistered) and PalmMMC which can be downloaded here: http://www.cosy.sbg.ac.at/~luke/home.cgi?ID=21
PalmMMC and PalmAmp both have to be installed on your palm, since PalmMMC is a frontend to PalmAmp. The diffence in using PalmMMC is that it shows everything BIGGER, shows 10 songs at a time instead of 6, you can flip through pages with the HARD BUTTONS unlike PalmAmp's where you have to keep touching a small section in the top part of the screen to flip the pages. Also in PalmMMC you can flip 10 songs at a time where PalmAmp you can't. The scroll bar in the playlist screen in PalmMMC is really easy too use since it's bigger unlike PalmAmp's. The only down side is that PalmMMC has no search function where PalmAmp has.
I have also tried "Busker", "Jukebox", and even "Pebbles" w/shortcutter for WinAmp (this app only lets you controll WinAmp and not actually see any songs or playlists). So for all those wanting to use a Palm to controll WinAmp i would Use PalmMMC as a frontend to PalmAmp.
Ohh and about the cable length. When running on my home computer ( Celery 566 O/C to 892mhz ) i can use the 7 foot long Palm CRADLE which came with the Palm. On the P133 car computer i can only use the 3 foot Serial connection cable which i bought for $29cdn. The problem that i found is when you change songs quickly like every 2 sec's or flip through the playlist panel 10 songs at a time you'll get songs all mixed up IF YOUR USING TO LONG OF A CABLE. If you run a SMALL cable like i do it run's Perfect!
I know you can't change playlists but i use a program called "Reproduction Control" from here: http://cosorio.cjb.net/
it let's use load a Directory instead of a .M3U list and you just assign a shortcut on your desktop to the Hotkey that you choose in the app. I also assign other music Directorys to Shortcuts on the desktop by using this code i found off this board
"C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" "C:\My Music\"
I currently run 5 directory loading playlists that are executed from F2->F6 and just have an keyboard (mini-infared) in the car. I need the keyboard in the car cuz i shut down the computer by the coomand line executed by another shortcut assigned to F12.
Sorry this is long but i'm just letting the people know that you can use a Palm to control WinAmp without any problems, AND just look in your bargain hunter you can find them cheap.
I have no web page as of yet but i can post pics of PalmMMC running if there is interest in it for other people.
Loftus.

For months i've been using a Palm to play my mp3s. I wrote some software from scratch, for both the Palm and the PC end. Nice big buttons, select any folder, shutdown the computer from the Palm...
Doesn't use Winamp or anything like that. well under 1mb for the lot, even with the fancy PC-side graphics and .prc for the Palm.
If you'd like a look, let me know, and i'll email you a copy.

Hmmm... sounds like the Mpeg player i'm using has 2000 issues.. I've been using it fine on 98, ME and 95, but haven't tried it in 2000 or XP.
I'll install C in 2000 in the next day or so, see if I can get it working...

Air_Man - you've got mail.
The version i've just sent should work better on Win2000. You won't see the shutdown option in this one - I don't use it, so i've hidden it. If it works, let me know, and i'll email the .prc with shutdown enabled.

Try installing Media Player 7. That should install the ACM support files.
