Everyone with win98 should read this

So far I have had 3 windows 98 systems benifit from doing this. 1 system had the mouse only work in safe mode, and the other 2 would boot up very slow every once in a while and run slow untill they were rebotted. They ran so slow the mouse was even jumpy. All you have to do is manually extract some files into the windows system dir and some vmm dir. I think my system even runs faster too. The best place i found for this problem is speedguide here http://www.speedguide.net/Windows/win_bugs.shtml

Hmmm...I have to question that. Windows will not boot without a few of those files, so if they were missing, Win98 wouldn't even run.

Now, before a bunch of people reply and say "but I searched my machine for those files and they weren't there", that's because they are all built into the VMM32.VXD file when Windows installs.

I'm not saying that this doesn't work, just that it may be one of those things that are "unconfirmed". Sort of like fuel additives...

All those files are compressed into one with that vmm32.vxd file. What they are saying is that this does not work with some systems. The fix it to install all the files manually that make up the vmm32.vxd file. This made a very noticable difference on all the win98 systems i did it too. I had occational slow boot problems with my fv24 board. It would boot slow about 50% of the time. I extracted the files and it never happened again.
