I'm curious as well...
Any software that can encode an audio stream to MP3 can do it.
I've used MusicMatch to record stuff from Mic, and I know you can use LINE IN, as well.
I also know it's not the only solution, but it's what I've used.
Now, how user friendly it (or any other apps) would be for in-car use? That's a whole other ballgame.
MusicMatch is a pretty heavy duty app. I want something lightweight that will run on a MII10k.Quote:

I know TotalRecorder used to be a good one.

Do these kind of software take up a lot of load?
music match isnt that hefty i used to use mmjb7 on a 233 P3 w/ 256MB of RAM
it had a nice linein recording ablity, as well as filetype conversion
Funny to see this thread as I was just thinking about this the other day and was about to post the same exact question....
Take a look at Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
It's an open source audio editing program (similar to others like goldwave, soundforge, etc...) and I know it can record but haven't played with that part of it enough, but I would think it would run fine on your system. Just remembered that I had it installed and will have to play with it on my car computer (EPIA PD mobo) as I want to record from radio as well.
dbpoweramp auxillary input can record from line in easily but i doubt it cud do the rest of the features. It would be nice for something like this, record rewind etc to be integrated into RR, or a plugin, id also like somethin like what ur lookin for.
I guess LoopRecorderPro is getting a little closer. I actually have record buttons on my RR skins for XM, FM, TV, and audio (streaming audio) that automatically start the program in continuous mode. You can adjust the loop length to whatever you want or record continuously. It has a quick save feature that I always use, i.e., when I hear a song I want to record I hit the record button in my skin; looprecorder opens and starts recording; at the end of the song, I close loop recorder and it converts the entire file to a sequentially numbered mp3 - carpc060302001, carpc060302002, etc or even date and time; then it closes until I hit record again.
The reason I say its close is because you can listen to the Loop while it continues to record, aka TIVO, but as far as doing this in a car environment, it could be hazardous. I may have to give that a try tomorrow and see what it takes to use it as a TIVO for XM. I'm sure if you use it for an external source, it will work; I think I only had problems with Wave Out mixing, so XM, FM, and TV shouldn't be a problem. Just can't do it while recording wave out mix. LoopRecorderPro does have decent buttons, but probably small on a 7" touchscreen. I have no problem using it on my 10".
I also use it at home to record my favorite European radio stations streamed over winamp at night for later listening.
