Install Windows inside on the same PC you're instaloing in teh car.
In other words, no.
Only if you have the exact same mobo/graphics/network/soundcard and so on. So not really plausible unless you have a dedicated test setup.
Shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you have to hand any other drivers you might need.
One proviso, when you have finished with the harddrive indoors.
assuming windows XP
Right click my computer
ide ata/atapi controllers
right click on the master IDE controller
no not this time
install from specific location
Don't search I will choose driver to install
Standard dual channel PCI IDE Controller
if 2000 then when you right click on master IDE choose properties
then driver tab, then update driver
display list of known drivers
and then again choose Standard dual channel PCI IDE Controller.
Yes, it should be OK, the main cause of bluescreens on reboot when you switch a harddrive from PC to PC is the inability of the OS to find the harddrive and this is caused by the IDE drivers being specific to the MB.
Therefore the above sets the driver to a generic IDE driver. The OS will then go through swapping all the other drivers around, therefore it is worth having a CD with all the drivers for the other PC ready. (although XP usually has most of them, it is normally best to put the manufacturer specific where possible).
ok cool cheers
is it worth installing things like BT dongles indoors or wait till its working outside?
Whatever you can install inside, do inside, will save hassle later on.
excellent. especialyl as its taken me ages to get phoco working.
i don't wanna repeat that outside
