Remote Mp3 server steaming over net to client

Does anyone know of any software that will allow me to stream mp3s from a server to a remote client. I want to be able to choose playlists, etc remotley, and have them streamed to a client. My cell phone has internet capability, and I can use it as a modem. Id like to be able to access all of my music at my house from my carpc Any suggestions?

Yes, its called a hard drive.

It would cost you far too much to stream mp3 from your home over your cell phone and the quality would be crap.
The point of a carpc is to have a copy of your mp3's on a hrd drive to select and play at your leisure.
We are, will have and forever will be...
    But not tommorrow!

Unless you have unlimited EVDO or cingular's version the quality will be crappy. Even if you do have a good speed, the sound quality is still not going to be as good. If you have a smartphone, you can remote access your XP computer, and then control using phone. Eats battery like a mofo though. But then you have an entire XP account along with the screenshots and the music being streamed. Then you have to get it to your car, unless you plan on driving with it duct taped to your ear. So you get an FM transmitter. Now you have a complete mess of wires with stereo sound that crackles everytime you drive by a building, and a constant interference due to the high activity on the wireless connection to your phone. Doesn't seem worth it.

Oh come on I've been doing this for months. I stream my mp3s. videos, and anything that can play on my home PC's TV card, i.e., all my cable channels! And with EVDO the quality is as good as the connection which is better than 128K 90% of the time. Isn't 128K CD quality?

It also lets me remotely schedule recording of the TV card from any internet browser. Did I also mention that I can share my pics online or better yet upload audio, video, and pics to my home PC via email.

The system I use is called ORB. Its free, allows lots of customization, is secure, and did I mention that its free. I can use ORB on any internet connected PC:across the street or around the world, my CarPuter, my cellphone, its GREAT! Now all I have to do is get it integrated into Road Runner.

This is really great for watching TV from my PPC. It blows my buddies away to see me watching the news on my phone, or the SciFi channel from my car. I even used it last weekend to listen to a new CD while I went over to my mom's house and cut her grass. My PPC has finally become the one gadget that does every thing I need, want, or can think of (at this time).

Check out www.orb.com. Setup requires you download software to your home PC with always on internet. Then configure from the home PC and go. I even created accounts on my home PC for family and friends giving them secured diskspace for their music, pictures, and video at the same time sharing the live and recorded TV files - everybody loves it.

Sounds like a pretty cool service and the price is right.
I'll have to check into that.

I didnt think the bandwidth through the phone was an issue . I understand that a hard drive would be easier, but Im trying to make this project have as small of a profile as possible. Ill give orb a try
