Question What is the best GPS Navigation soft for PC(Laptop) for West Europe?

What is the best GPS Navigation soft for PC(Laptop) for West Europe?

    I need : 1.Laptop
2.GPS Navigation soft for PC(Laptop) for West Europe
3.GPS Receiver with SiRF III chipset connected to Laptop

I want to travel in Germany and i need a GPS Navigation soft but for PC and NOT for PDA!

What is the best GPS soft from this :

    ViaMichelin MapSonic/MapStore
    InfoMap Navigator 4.4 - Europe
    Route 66 Europe 2005
    Microsoft Autoroute 2005
Alturion GPS Professional With European Maps v6.0
    Destinator 3
    Aeromap

What you recommend me for GPS Receiver :
    Holux GR-236 or GlobalSat BT-338 ?

What is the last version of Viamichelin for PC?

    ViaMichelin Navigation 4 Europe
    http://www.shop.viamichelin.co.uk/sh...?catalogID=725

This will work for PC ?

What's different between ViaMichelin Navigation 4 Europe and ViaMichelin MapSonic/MapStore ?

Does ViaMichelin MapStore 3.5 run on a pc then ? all i can see on their site is pda

Yes it works on a PC, Mapstore is the PC part and Mapsonic is the PDA part. The PC doesn't have postcode search like the PDA and isn't really touchscreen friendly at all..
What is the last version of ViaMichelin MapSonic/MapStore ?

thank you very much and I wait your reply

    I use infomap navigator

Hard to say what is "best", there are probably few who have tried many of them. Good luck collecting information on the lot.

I use infomap navigator, it is ok with a touchscreen and have postcode search. It also have a "carpc mode" with on-screen keyboard. Perhaps that don't matter to you, if you're going to use a laptop. You can buy it with a sirf III usb gps included if you like.

My reason for choosing infomap navigator was that it runs with linux - no other navigation sw do.

But do you have : InfoMap Navigator 4.4 - Europe ?

Or do you have UK version of Infomap?

    InfoMap Navigator 4.4 Professional Europe

    http://www.directions.ltd.uk/moreinfo.php?id=1120

    Postcode Locator (UK only)
Search about postcode it's working just in UK

    ViaMichelin Navigation 4 Europe
    http://www.shop.viamichelin.co.uk/sh...?catalogID=725

    - New additional functions such as:
    - History saves your last ten destinations
    - Bypass allows you redirect your route to avoid traffic jams and roadworks
    - Speed Warner alerts you when you exceed speed limits
    - Postcode search for all of Europe
    - Map language changes the language displayed on your map
    * In order to succesfully install ViaMichelin Navigation 4 on your PC, it is required to perform a synchronisation with your PDA. Otherwise, it is impossible to install the software.
How can i install ViaMichelin Navigation 4 Europe if i don't have PDA,because in their site it tells it's impossible to install it without PDA

How many CD's ( DVD) is InfoMap Navigator 4.4 - Europe , if you have this?

I can use it with my Laptop?

Have you try it already in West Europe? ( germany, france, spain, austria, italy etc ?

Because i want to travell in germany, and i need a GPS navigation software

    thank you

Download the manual and have a read.... http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamich...serGuideUK.pdf

I am just downloading it myself, but I believe the PC part is no longer like mapsonic with navigation but just for planning.

I'm using iGuidance Europe, and it does the job for me.
It's also supported in almost every frontend.

I haven't looked much at that yet, but it is definitely able to find street addresses in Norway.

I don't know about this Michelin thing. If it says PDA only, then it probably is PDA only. Infomap navigator, on the other hand, runs on PCs that have linux or windows.

You get one DVD, or several CDs. The DVD contains maps for western Euroupe except UK, as well as all the software. If you buy your GPS elsewhere then you may need a driver for it too. Linux already has with a driver for the optional supplied GPS.

Sure, if your laptop is an ordinary intel-compatible one, and you have either linux or windows on it.

All of those, and many more. A full install is a bit over 7GB, but you may select to not install some maps to save space.
