Thumbs up Yahoo! Widgets in CarPC w/net

Is anyone else using Yahoo Widgets? I remember that was one of the things I missed in WinXP after having used MacOS for a bit.

I just started playing around with them this morning and I found some traffic widgets that fit quite well with my carpc.

Below is a screenshot of what I have running when driving to work - Frodoplayer is a 'touch' away and I can come back to this screen simply by minimizing FP from within the media screen.

I saw a lot of various traffic widgets, thankfully the one for the Chicagoland area let's me adjust the zoom, etc so I only see the regions I am interested in (work commute). Before I had to open FireFox within FP, scrool, zoom, refresh, etc.

I know others had discussed ObjectDesktop, etc before but if our frontends could somehow intergrate these widgets then we could have universal ones for use with any of 'em.

The iTunes remote I threw on there is just for show as I'm obviously using FP - but I'm looking around for a widget that may interface with WMP.

I think I'll even start learning how to develop my own..

Here's the shot of it in the car and a screen cap that's easier to see.

Now the traffic wasn't bad after 9:30 - but if you glance at the odometer you can get a better idea of where I may be on the traffic map (driving NW).. suffice it to say it's ever redder during my normal commute hours.

Also, to the right is 'Traffic Gauge' ,another cool widget that supports various metropolitan areas - it's set to be very transparent and I later replaced with with the weather/stock widgets.

Do you have any plans for having it pull location from iGuidance or directly from GPS? Thankfully I don't have to fill up too often so even manually entering the coordinates won't be too inconvienient. Actually this will be great as I have a sure way of knowing if there's any diesel in the area - unfortunately the 'Find Gas' in iGuidance is more like a lottery in that they 'may' have diesel.

Im attemting to use Widgets. Its probably going to be on my HUD screen. I'm gon to make it display song info, weather, and carputer stats (such as temp, HDD status, CPU usage, and what not as well) as the nitemax display and Iguidance.

i say use the scolling shortcut widget in the an screen for other things in the main screen

BTW, as one of losts guineapigs for GPSGas (i have my own version!) its a better program than th one that is used in yahoo's, IMO, as it is more specialized to GPS systems.

yeah, ive been using yahoo widgets for a while now. I have all my widgets set to only show on the hud, and a button in my skin that switches RR to an almost completly transparent screen (all black) and send the command to activate the widget HUD w one click anywhere in empty space to return to RR. Been thinking about making my own fullscreen widgets specific to car use but still looking for the time to do it.

I'll try something like that with FP - right now I've got NaviVoice configured to show/hide the HUD

    Weather yahoo widget

I did not know something like this existed before yesterday! I guess that I am too "embedded"..

3 favourites: digiclock, weather and stockholmstrafiken :-) Well at least if it worked.

This is quite enough for me! I will not try to do everything in this way.
