    Encoder comparison tests

    Hi All,
I remember about a year ago I found a site that did comparison tests on about 5 or 6 different MP3 encoders, and posted a very comprehensive report with data and color graphs on the website. I have lost the URL, can somebody help me out here?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is posted in the wrong group.

    Mike

CDex (www.cdex.n3.net), learn it, love it, use it. It uses the LAME encoder, and does a damn good job, and is extremely easy to use (unlike runing lame from the comand line with switches ).

mike was after comparisions actually! but since your quoting software, I would suggest going for Exact Audio Copy and Lame 3.91!

heheh, EAC's gooad as well I hear. I think the biggest thing is to find an encoder using lame to encode (ie not wmp, or jukebox, etc).

    Encoder comparison tests

    Hi All,
After much searching I found the report that I printed out from that site. It was on the ArsTechnica website under 'Technical Blackpapers'. Then under 'Sci-Tech' click on 'more', and it is at the bottom of the page, 'Do MP3 Encoders Affect Final Sound Quality?'
I suggest you all check it out; even though it is from 3/2000, it is very informative!
    Thanks for all the responses.

    Mike
