New Destinator3 Front End in progress

    UPDATED: SCREENSHOT
    * new: multi-state button (ie. day/night button picture will change: similarly view will toggle between 2D/3D & birds eye)

    Hi everony,

I am currently developing a front-end for destinator for personal use. It may be heavily influenced by MapMonkey (amazing piece of software); which I would have used if it had the feature I was after.

without further description, I would let the screenshots do the talking. I hope it will explain what I want this software to do.

one screenshot shows the routeplanner; and how you can add points.

other screen is the organisor where you can manage all trips, favourites.

just started on it couple of days ago; and still a long way to go.

Would anyone be interested in such a software. When it is completed, it will be released as a FreeWare. So if you would like to test it out, let me know.

    regards
    Rana Hossain

Map Monkey is amazing, and its most amazing (and most under approciated) feature is its plugin interface. So basicly im just asking, since u basicly like that software too, did u make sure that features u find lacking, are not implementable with that pretty complete plugin SDK? Might save u lot of work...

    hi bear,

I had a look through the SDK, and some of the commands I need is not implemented. I am not sure if NinjaMonkey is still developing MM or not. I have sent him an e-mail; so basically waiting for a reply. In the meantime I thought, I can either play GTA or do some coding

what language are you writing this in? VB, VC++ or something else. Also I'm intersted in what features wern't implemented.
You have undertaken a difficult job, especially if you are going to make it freeware. Just ask anyone who has developed software on this forum. I wish you the best of luck with this project and look forward to seeing the results.

    Hi meddler,

writing it in VB to start with; if it needs any hook, will need to resort to vc.

I am not a big fan of the way you would add a waypoint in Destinator. For example, sometime I would like to find a place using street address; once in a while I would know the post-code (or part of it).

Using Destinator, I would have to choose Zip>Street, Street>Zip or Street>City; and then try to find it. Where in AutoRoute/MapPoint, I could specify what I know, and let it narrow it down.

If you look at the first screenshot, a window named "Find": In that window, I can type all keywords; Now I have a friend in Haven Chase Leeds; I just put in "haven" and the search returned me all the results from current map. Once I have chosen the correct one, it adds that location on the route-planner.

Finally all defined waypoints can moved up or down (see screenshot).

I am now messing around with the organiser; similar method to add/edit trips; again all waypoints in a trip can be moved.

Perhaps I missed it in MM; but I also would want the day/night button in front (with perhaps an auto feature), front 2d/3d view.
