Does bypassing the windows bootup bitmap really speed it up?

yeah only a 1/2 second at most, but why not? Bit of a silly thing to have anyway IMHO....

I think not having virtual memory on is a good thing too..... less data to be written to the HDD means less chance of cluster errors on instant powerdown... just make sure you have the RAM to run the programs you need...!

you can't delete the boot logo out of windows itself. if your computer's manufacturer decided to add one, its logo.sys. If you delete that file, it just defaults back to the win98 startup screen. and really, all the boot logo does is cover up the dos messages that get displayed. i know i like hearing my car boot windows (windows startup sound) just cause its unique. and if you really want it to boot quickly, get win98 lite. disabling the startup sound will shave maybe a second or two of the boot time if that.

I have 128MB and when I ran win98lite with no virtual mem, the performance was horrible. Winamp took like 4x as long to load.
