Songbird as basis for a front end?

Has anyone heard of Songbird? http://www.songbirdnest.com To me, it looks promising as an up and coming media player with some nice features already like ripping, skinning, smart mixes, extensibility with a hookable API. With it being open source, I could see how it could leveraged to a greater advantage than something like Winamp which seems pretty popular for frontends.

I can't say I have any big development knowledge to backup any claims of potential I see but it seems to make sense to me and given that it's in the early stages of development, I could see the large community providing tons of suggestions to guide development in a direction that could be later molded into something very workable for a carpc.

    Just my two cents.

I was just about to post the same question you did. Good thing I searched first! It looks kinda like my favorite music player, Amarok.

i know they are marketing it as an itunes replacement judging by the style of it, but if it's for XP, why does the main screen shot on the front page show it running on a Mac? seems a bit silly to me!
