    Ruining multiple WinAmps?

My idea is having music on 3 rooms each with a separate LCD 4x40 and regular controls, next track/play/stop..........can this be done with on CPU? With 3 soundcards so that each winamp could use one??? what would I need? To have 3 rooms with deferent music playing but with the same Computer? can i run more then one Winamp at the same time? what about the LCD's? and the Keyboard.....as I'll need deferent controls on every room.....I'll buy separate cards and all but I would like one computer b/c I live in the city in an apartment so i'll do anything to save space and not make it bulky

YES... study the winamp.ini file... i believe in there, there is a section for the soundcard or it might be in registry. Anyway start off with 2 sound card... create two dirs.... winamp1 & winamp2 and put the same winamp files in there... then get dir1 working and then dir2.....

The only problem I see you having, is multiple LCDs. Most of them run off the LPT port, meaning you would have to have 3 LPT ports. In all you would need about 7 expansion slots (3 sound, 3 LPT, 1 video), better find a large motherboard! As far as controls you might want to look into some of the Winamp control plugins like Com-Port Control, Winamp Comm Control andComControl. They allow you to have 4 or more external buttons to control Winamp. I have made the hardware for these plugins and it is very easy!

i was gonna say a USB hub with multiple USB --> Parallel port adaptors, but I dont think they are that easy to program.....

I think the 3 serial ports would be much nicer.....

three sound cards, that would be fun!!! also make sure u have a fairly beefy CPU for 3X the mp3 decoding.....

USB parallel adapters are a no-no. The concensus was that because USB parallel adapters use software to run a printer, LCD's WON'T WORK because they require hardware access to the printer port.

Multiple USB -> Serial adapters -would- work however. Only obsticle would be the cost of serial LCDs.

Controlling said system would be a challenge too.

yeah, thats what I assumed...... it would be nice if someone could just write a printer driver that you could pump data to it..... maybe using the 'plain text' printer driver....

    hrm.... might work..

So.........Now I've decided to only use in two rooms........the MotherBoard has 4 PCI's two ISA's,128mb ram,AMDK6-2 500mhz runing at 350mhz..........so i got the sound and the winamps.......but i still need 2 LCDS and a way to control these Winamps........Serial/USB/Parallel? what is cheaper and easier?........

I'm already running a Puter for the alarm/plus my puter/my sis puter/and this MP3 puter........it would be nice to just use one for Mp3's around the house
