    ShutDown speed

Here's my problem, I am currently using the OPUS 150w power supply on a Asus CUSL2 with a P3 733Mhz, running Win XP with Media Engine. I use the shut down setting when I turn off the car cuz I don't want to have a drain on my battery while its off. I am already using Media Engine as a shell instead of explorer.exe but the shutdown time is about 2 secs. off the shut down control setting of 15 secs. I don't want to set the controler to 10 mins. cuz I dont want the drain on my battery. Is there any other way of speeding up the shut down? I've done the search, blah blah blah... seems like most ppl are concerned with boot time, boot speed don't really bother me its only 1 min anyways and I've set it up so that the comp boots when I autostart, its just when it doesn't shut down properly and I get that screen that tells me it wasn't shut down properly that bugs me... PLZ! some help! THANKS in advance!

sorry I can't answer your question on how to speed up the shutdown process... but. 10 minutes is not going to be a problem unless your battery is already on it's last legs. I've been running for some time on a 4 year old battery with the 2 HOUR hardoff delay of my m1-atx.. and I often leave it on for that 2 hour period without issue.

set it to the 10 mins, it will only hurt your battery if for some reason your pc hangs when it is shutting down. Once the pc is shut down it will no longer use any power. I cant see an extra 2 sec's worth of power causing any problems. Your battery should easy be able to cope with 10 mins anyway, if it can't you have other problems you need to take care off.
By the way if you hibernate you don't use any power, its only standby that keeps using power.

I use EWF and minlogon, and shutdown takes about 2 seconds!

have a look for some threads on minloogn and EWF to see what that entails.

oh ic, the way I understood it was that once the opus is drawing power there is a drain on the battery even though the computer isn't using any of this power. I also don't like using the hibernate option cuz media engine doesn't seem to want to come back when i come out of hibernate. After a quick search on minlogon i decided its just more trouble than its worth, so many ppl seem to have problems with it. As for the EWF, i just donno what that is. Thanx for all the input.

As people have said, just set it to 10 minutes, you shouldn't have any problems with it.

There will be "some" draw by the opus when the computer is off, but it is SIGNIFICANTLY less then the power that your car already uses powering your cars ECU and other electronics. You will NEVER notice this, unless your battery is effed up.

Just so you know, I tested my setup while in Standby, and it draws less then 200 ma. I have left my computer in my car in standby for 3 days with out starting it, and when I went to start the car, it started right up, no hesitation, it didn't strugle, nothing. As if the computer had been off the whole time.

    Don't worry about it.

If you set the shutdown time to 10 min, isn't that to just delay the problem 10 minutes ? The Opus then wait 10 minutes until it send the shutdown command, unless you do a manual shutdown. At least mine 120W Opus does that.

No the 10 mins is to hard off as in if the PC has hung and wont shut down properly the opus will cut the power to it anyway saving the car battery. In the proper scheme of things when you ask it to shut down it should and there isn't an issue. Once the opus has detected the pc has shut down properly it switches off anyway.

    Strongly disagree with you !

From the manual from the Opus 150W:

"The delay time is set by a set of jumpers located in side the DC-DC power supply control board (Refer to the heading ‘Setting the turn off delay’). Once the delay time has elapsed, the DC-DC power supply hand shakes and controls with the motherboard to go into one of three states namely shut down, standby or hibernate mode"
