I wrote a small version of this. It's a simple windows service that shutsdown your laptop when the AC power is removed. I wrote it using .NET 3.5 so if you don't mind installing the framework then you can use it. If you let me know any configuration requests, I could expand on this application. I'm not sure how the people that were using it were putting it to use.

My RAID5 array died a few weeks back and I lost all my applications, including VS, I'll need to get another copy from Uni, then install, then I can have a bash at developing it again. All the above seem more than fixable.

No problem! No word from you in the last couple months and people were thinking that the software was abandoned. I have a friend who wants to do a laptop implementation, I just wanted to make sure he had somthing when he got around to it.

Looks like it's becomming abandonware now. Anybody have an alternative solution. This program has the perfect idea just a couple bugs in the implementation and if anybody has the code or knows how to reach the author, please speak up. It's almost there as THE solution for a lot of people using laptop computers and there will only be more in the future looking for something like this.
Didn't mean to jump the gun there, your program rocks! We just couldn't make it work for our situations and were getting desperate.
As long as you're up for making some fixes to it we have hope. I can deal with the issues for a bit but I wanted to find a solution or at least be able to look forward to one working correctly. Thanks for updating us and welcome back from holiday! What kind of time frame do you think that we are looking at to get another release? week/month/etc.

Ineffigy: I appreciate the people on the forum looking out for eachother and stepping up. Looks like it's all good now that ShutControl is getting some TLC. But thanks for the offer, if we had been left without anything it would have been a dead thread and no one would have had an alternative to look to if they read it a year from now.
It's no big deal. I got to use alot more Win32API calls and I learned a few things in the process. I got to learn about Token Processes which was interesting so I'm happy. I'm kinda proud I was able to get it done in 8 hours.
The config file getting corrupted is the biggest issue for me. Everything else I have found work a rounds for.

Aint checked this thread for a while, other than that i'm happy with the software. Was thinking it wud be a good idea to add a 'cancel shutdown for xxx secs/mins' for when your filling up the car / away for a few mins) to prevent shutdown.

Can this program be written to work based on voltage? I'm interested in more flexibility in shut down guidance than my m2-atx PS offers. When the car shuts down with switched power still on, it goes from 14 volts to 12 volts. if the computer could get a sense of this, maybe with some kind of tie in with the PS, then I could have my computer continue to stay on while syncing with the house pc for 5 minutes or so. it's the only regular internet connectin my car would have, and the 5 second shutdown on the m2 won't allow time for it.
I just ordered my auto power-on module and just downloaded this nifty little program. I'll never (hopefully) have to press the power button again :).
I just tested this program with my laptop and it works great. My setup boots faster than it starts from hibernation so I just set it to shutdown after a certain period of time. I love it!
I have one suggestion though. My setup is setup so that when I turn the car off and the acc line is still on my laptop stays on thanks to the battery. I'd like to set my timer to leave the laptop on for 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes, I'd like it to turn off the car. No problem. Sometimes I sit in my car with the car in this state for longer than 5 minutes like when I'm waiting on a female lol. Anyway, I'd like a box that would pop up while the timer is counting down and maybe have it ask me if I'd like to wait another 5 10 or 15 minutes. Most of the time the 5 minutes that the system can account for would be fine, but I'd like to have it account for all situations if possible. Just something to think about.
