    Cam Recorder with Text Overlay

As this has been around 9 months since the last report from tissy, I would say this project came to a stand still

For an alternative, You can check out THIS THREAD. It is a Web Cam viewer, as well as recorder, On Screen Indicator when recording, Has GPS overlay, Custom Text overlay, and soon Lat, Lon and others. It also has a 4 way mirror feature. Meaning you can flip vertically and horizontally, as well as both combinations. This can be set as a default in the .ini so if you are using it as a reverse cam, HMirror=True will default to a mirrored image at startup.

It can use any Codec you choose, Xvid, DivX or whatever. You can set all of the preferences (Codec, Custom Text and what not) in the .ini file.

It is written with a totally free OCX, no licensing fee's, and thus is 100% free!

The plugin was written with Road Runner in mind, but it should be able to embed in any front end, and just use that Front End's way of sending commands to the plugin. It has a testing mode, so it can Run stand alone, so most certainly it could be embedded in any front end.

Using the DivX Codec, I am getting around 4 hours of recorded video per gig of Hard Drive space at a very decent quality of 640 x 480 resolution.

I set a custom indicator in RR for my skin. Yes, [hl]REC [/hl] is overlaid on the screen (Not recorded) when recording, but I created the indicator to display on other screens, so I know if I left it recording or not, and don't eat up the hard drive

Here is a screen capture of it running in Road Runner. Yes, I just got that puppy a few days ago, and was a perfect place to aim the camera for the screen capture, as well as.... Ahem... the song currently playing

I would love to have a simple program running in the background that would record gps coordinates, speed and timestamped so I can merely import into a gps prog like S&T or whatever to see my "trail". I think this would help anyone that gets hit with a speeding ticket and save alot of disk space. Does anyone know if there is a program out there like that?

I just thought of an interesting option:
Allow the user to select an "interlacing" option. Instead of capturing the full frame rate of the camera, capture the camera at half the rate. Intersperse the camera frames with data (Lat/Long, Speed, OBD-II settings, etc), or a snapshot of the navigation map.

That other system looks decent, but it is for Roadrunner. I'm under the impression that this thread is for a StreetDeck supported system.

I'm not sure what your option is trying to accomplish, but I don't know much about programming, so maybe I'm missing something. As far as it being a StreetDeck program, I don't know what gave you that impression either. Seems kinda strange, considering the Original Poster/Writer of this app is running Road Runner himself. Maybe he just felt like he owed StreetDeck Something...

I'm not sure where I picked up the impression that this was a StreetDeck project. My apologies. It looked like a serious threadjack was occurring. Again, my apologies.

My idea with having the frames interlaced was to have one software option that was recording multiple parameters of the car, and allow the tracking of those parameters simultaneously.

One of the installations that I worked at had a similar system. It recorded in this fashion, and used the interlaced data frames to display local sensor status. If your display was looking at a room, every other frame was displaying the status of all of the window, door, thermal, and motion sensors. It was a very neat system.

In a car, I could see many of us using a system like this for legal documentation. Having the video capture will help, sure. It would be really nice to have a time linked GPS map. Having some sort of data overlay displaying speed, time, GPS lat/long, engine RPM, etc, would be even more helpful.
For those car tuners out there, being able to capture OSB-II data while observing what the car is doing (Moving up or down a hill, hitting a curve, etc) might be useful (I'm not a car tuner).
I'm definitely not a coder either, though I may have to break down and start learning how to do it.

I was not thread-jacking in any way.. The author, is a Road Runner user, as well as about 80% of the people posting in this thread from the names I recognize at least. It has been almost a year, since the last post from the author. I would call that a dead project. There were numerous posts bickering as well as supporting having to pay for the OCX and such. I simply posted a FREE alternative, that should be able to be used in ANY front end, that is capable of embedding an application. (Not sure if Street Deck can do this or not)

Keeping that in mind, thats why I made this part pretty clear:

Road Runner specific features are being added to the soon to be released next version. This will allow you to use any label from Road Runner to be overlayed at any location of the video, Right down to the song that you happened to be listening to at the time it was recorded if you so wanted.

Yeah, I think it's pretty much dead. Check out this post for RRCAm 2.0b. It's freaking sweet, and it does basicly everything this program was supposed to do.

I know most of you won't want to record video/gps speed outside of your carputers, but if you're really looking for a working, court-tested approach, check out this link on the system I installed in my truck, and my wife's car.
