Running executables form a web page.

When you link to an exercutable with html using the anchor tags, the user is prompted if they want to save the file or run it, is there anyway to remove this prompt? Either html, javascript or the settings in IE

And you say people actually pay money for M$ Windows?
www.mp3mini.co.uk (Does what it says on the URL) www.openclassic.co.uk (The new car, with zero rust!) www.rob-web.co.uk (My other site)
Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)

If there is any way I didn't find it.
You could create a program that uses the ie control and checks if you clicked an exe file and then runs it.
I did this in vb for a search engine I created for mp3s that displayed the results in html.

If you had your box set up with a webserver you could run it as a cgi command

mp3car system is currently FUBAR and finances do not allow for a correction of that situation

oh yeah! the first time you click the exe it will give you the "open|save" dialog.. if you hit open then check the box that says "always perform this action for this file type".. I think it should work.. ne?

I realize this is probably a limited scope, local page GUI, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if .exe and .bat have more serious limitations than other file types. The idea of someone out there automatically running executables from the web gives me the willies.

Shinukonamida: I don't think there are going to be a lot of viruses in your car. Where would they come from if you upload only mp3s? I think its not a problem if you can get the exe files to open automatically.

Check the archive of the BugTraq mailing list...There are various exploits for IE that will do this for you...

But in general, there really isn't.
