Thread: Using a PIC with Zehnder's LCDplugin - First Time Programing.

Ok the newest release of Markus Zehnder's LCD plugin now supports input on the serial port. I asked him how it works and he replyed

at the moment it's character based at the specified speed with 8 data bits and 1 stop bit

So it needs serial data on Pin X. (i asked which one).

What i want to do is use a PIC to convert high/low signals from the five buttons to serial data that the plugin can read.
I've access to a PIC programmer at school ( i hope it's working). so i just need help with the programming stuff. at school we are using BASIC and then converting it to assembler and then hex. (using CH Flash and MP Labs software i beleave)

so what do i need to know about BASIC to get this to work?

i want to have each button having its own character, a button double clicked having a separate character, and a held button having an other character. and perhaps two buttons push at the same time sending different character (for shutting down)

BTW whats a stop bit?
