    Radio Recording? How?

Currently I'm using Winamp with Lorty's plugin and a 17key numpad.

I have 98 SE and a AIMS labs RadioTrack FM tuner card. What I want to do is if I hear something on the radio, I want to be able to press a key on the keypad, and have it start recording.

Then, press the same key again, and it stops. It would save the .wav files in a pre-defined directory for later perusal and conversion to mp3. Any ideas about how to go about this? I'm running version 1 of the RadioTrack software, and Winamp 2.8

Is there any other info you need to help me out? Just ask.

If the radio card is attached to the soundcard then all you really need to do is create a Windows macro to do it for you with the Sound Recorder app. Better still, find a small piece of software on the internet that does the same thing but creates a new filename each time you record.

If your radio card isnt attached to the soundcard then you would need to connect its aduio out to the soundcard audio in.

You would be better off going straight to MP3.. if you don't care too much abvout quality you could use music match, this will allow you to record straight to MP3 from a line input.

Also, I only have a character LCD, and lorty's plugin needs focus to work. So how can I have winamp running, and when I hear a song, press a button that opens SoundRecorder(the windows accesory) and starts recording. The second time the button is pressed, it would need to hit file -> save on sound recorder, ensure the correct directory, and automatically generate a numbered filename. Then, close sound recorder and switch focus back to winamp.

Damn, thats a lot. Is it possible?

Definately yes with a bit of code in VB. You would need to allocate a key on your keypad for this sole purpose and then monitor the keyboard buffer for that ascii code. You could probably find some ready made code to record sound in VB then just add the code to start recording and your away.

Damn, I guess that means I need to move past the "hello world" stage in VB (where I am now)

Is that intermediate VB, or more advanced. Could I go from almost scratch in VB knowledge to enough to program that in like a week? If I spent time on it?

Also, got a link to a good VB site that would have that "code" you're talking about?

Girder can automate this for you. Check it out. It's really very useful and not *too* difficult to learn how to use.
