    Win 98 issue - Apr 22, 2002

It works great as long as you can get Windoze 98 to recognize it as usb to serial cable and not a usb host controller

i guess thats the problem. so i just put in an old pci serial extension card i have for now.

Not seen this particular device, but with most USB problems U can solve it by:

    1) Rmove the device from Device Manager, then unplug it, in that order.

    2) install the drivers then reboot

    3) wait for Win to boot up then hot-plug the USB cable, windows should detect it and use the drivers that have been installed in C:\Windows\system.

If that doesnt work, try going into device manager, open the properties for tht device and choose reinstall driver. Point to the location of the driver files and click ok.

phil.45--thanks for trying to help out.

i finally got a manual on their website. here's the problem...

the cable goes into the usb controls section of device manager. the manual shows it in the com port section as "usb to serial port cable"

i have tried a million ways to try to get it to work like this but cant get it. what happens the most is that windows just "installs the best driver for..."add new hardware only goes right to this also.

    but...i'm not giving up yet!!!!

If you use device manager>reinstall driver>select a location and select the correct driver (.vxd i think on Win95/98), windows should move it to the right tree in the list.

Trouble with this sort of thing is that it can be quite difficult to sort out without actually seeing the problem in front of me.

    so anyway...
i hooked up my gps receiver to my pci serial extension card, ran some extension cables out my window and set it on the bushes in front of my house. it put the star right in my backyard. so it works and im not going to bother to pull my hair out over it.
