I've been lurking in the background for a while now and finally bought my carputer! I've just got the following to go in:
MacMini with bluetooth and Wifi
Carnetix CNX-P1900 Ver. 2.2 Dual Output 140 Watt 12V DC-DC Regulator
Carnetix CNX-P5V 15 Watt +5V Regulator
Extra Monitor Power Cable
MacPac Power Cable Kit
Xenarc 700TSV - VGA Monitor with touchscreen and video inputs
USB - CAN dongle for OBD-II
As a result I would like to start writing a front end for the OBD II diagnostics. I've searched around the forums but can't see any CAN OBD II software apart from the comercial ones. My car's an 07 Ford Mustang and only supports CAN, so I can't use the other flavours.
Does anyone have any experience in this area and could possibly shed any light on CAN OBD-II. I don't mind buying the specs from SAE but can't find enough info on the CAN application layer to know which specs I need (there's so much info out there on the other data link flavors). Failing that I'm going to have to log the interaction of my OBD-II tool and reverse engineer it... not fun!
