    The volume question: MASTER vs. WAVE

    I always thought the way to achieve the best sound quality was to put the WAVE volume all the way up and the MASTER volume low and adjust from there. Is this the way everyone is doing it? I'd appreciate any input. Does anyone know of any Winamp plugins that let it control the MASTER volume instead of the WAVE volume? I know XMMS has an option but I couldn't find one for Winamp. Thanks.

    It depends on where the signal is preamped on your sound card, and where your preamps start clipping.

    The safest thing to do is probably to set the volume half way on both the master, and wave, and vary the volume using the amplifier connected to your computer.
