    Slow RoadRunner Performance

Ok, I've been searching for ever. I found a few threads about speed issues with RoadRunner. I'm having trouble when navigating between the screens, delays around 10 seconds between screens. The rest of the system appears to be performing normally.

The one thing I can't seem to find is a copy of the Flash8.OCX that Guino mentions in the following post: High CPU Load, Buttons Fail to Respond, White box / square around logo's

The link he provides is dead, and I can't seem to locate a (trustable?) source of this file. I don't even know that this is still a current issue, but I'm willing to try.

I want to try the one "clipping" option that Guino mentioned, haven't tried that yet. This was mentioned here:
    Roadrunner performance tweaking

I've also tried JPG-based skins to no avail, so I'm unsure that stepping back to Flash 8 will help.

It's interesting that the performance manager/task viewer in Windows doesn't appear to be showing a major processor spike when the delay happens.

For the record, this is an EPIA M10000 motherboard with 1 gig of RAM.

Thanks for any pointers anyone can provide.

Not sure it will help you in this case but you can download the flash ocx from here http://www.kompassist.co.uk/ in the files section. This is the mirror site to guino's. What is your processor sitting at while running RR?

Thanks for the link, I'll give that a try... If memory serves (I'm about 35 miles from the CarPC right now) it was in the neighborhood of 10%... Then when I click (touch) something, it jumps very briefly to 50%, drops back to 30% or so (while RR is hanging)... Then eventually shows the next screen.

I'll get more details in a few hours.
    Thanks for the help.

Ok, not sure what the fix was... I tried the Flash8.ocx and it actually caused RoadRunner to lock up, so reverted back to Flash9b.ocx. I had recently gotten the latest flash update, so maybe that helped?

Anyway, it still delays the first time I hit any particular button, but it's much better on subsequent hits of the same button. I tried the EnableClipping=False option, and it didn't help.

I think I'm Ok with the way it's running now. It might have been the Flash update (to the latest on the Macromedia site) that calmed the situation a bit.

    Thanks for the help!

One more update to this one... if you add:
    fastmode=1
to your RR.INI, it also seems to ease this pain a bit.

For the record, one more thing that helped tremendously was dropping the desktop colors to 16-bit (it was on 32-bit). This cut loading times between screens in HALF, if not better!

WOW you really shouldn't have to do that, and IMO is unacceptable to have to do it. Everything has to look like *** like that.

Do you have screen transitions turned on ?

You should post in the RoadRunner forum so more people with via boards can help you out. I know these boards are slow and seems more trouble than they are worth, but there are people who say they have them running at decent speeds with RR.

just for ****s and giggles take out half your ram and see what happens. if that doenst work, swap the stick with the stick you had out. assuming you have two 512. maybe bad ram? im just starting to run road runner with i think its called digitalfxblue skin i think its called.

if non flash skins lag, i doubt it'd be a flash thing.... but i upgraded to the latest version after trying some old versions. it runs a little laggy but what can you expect. but on the heavy-flash skin mauri, its beyond unusable. but i dont think its a flash thing at that point, its a lack of processing power thing.

FYI i idle running winamp around 30%. but frodo player (which was lightning fast. maybe you should try it) ran about that load as well

ive been running frodo player for about 14 months and i love it, but i wanted to step up to something with a little bit better interface. but if RR is running poorly, i wouldnt personally mind going back to frodoplayer. i think my main skin was lsx or something by that guy

    Whoops... Thought I had... Sorry.
