Just FYI: I got my D-Link FM radio in yesterday, and if you don't need AM, this is the way to go. It has great reception, is extremely small, and only cost me about $35 USD. I took it out of the case that it come in, and the pcb looks to be only about 1~1.5 inches square. The nicest part about it (and the reason I posted in the software forum), is because it comes with sample source code and necessary DLL's. The source code is even in VB6! They have an entire project on how tune and seek. Seems to be the perfect solution for FM...

Surely the best way to sort this radio issue out once and for all would be to design one?? Isn't the radio the absolute classic amateur electronics project? So what we really need is a digital tuneing am / fm radio which supports tuning by the serial port. Sadly I don't need this or have the time to make it, but i might have a look at it during the summer.
Cheers
