Monitor not working due to BIOS oddity? Please help!!!

hello all,

having a very strange problem at the moment and cannot get to the bottom of it... I have detachable monitor, and usually take it off dash when parked. Every so often I forget to put it back on before I turn on ignition (at which time computer resumes from hibernation). Here's the weird thing. If I then plug the screen I get no picture (though the touch screen works...) Restarting the computer does nothing to solve the situation - I don't even see the POST screen. Nothing.

After much cussing, I eventually discovered that if I reset my BIOS (using a jumper on my mainboard), everything works again... So that leads me to believe that the BIOS is doing something wonky... Any ideas???

My mainboard is a Via CN-13000, and I'm using a 8" LinITX monitor (though it has also happened during testing with a standard CRT)

Something kinda similar happens to my Xenarc, but at a later stage. I have managed to figure out what happens but not why it happens. It seems that when i try the standby on my CPC and the system then kills power due to a low battery current, then the next time it powers on the display gets blank.

Looking at the BIOS the type of screen attached gets changed from CRT to LCD (It works in the CRT setting but not in the LCD setting). When i change it back to CRT it starts working just fine. Now i have started shutting down my system instead of trying to make it standby (which doesnt work anyway). When it shuts down and reboots it works great every time.

Maybe you should look at the screen setting in your bios.

Thanks for the suggestion ankur... I've checked this out and I don't have that option in my bios.

Could the problem be that I am using powerstrip to achieve a 640x480 resolution (not available natively in the driver...)?

I had the cn13000 too. I also have similar problem with liliput 7". check your bios, earlier bios ver. will change it to "TV" whenever it cannot determine your monitor type. ver.1.07 said it will default "CRT" instead. But I had not upgrade to ver.1.07 . Be very careful when flash your bios.

another method is to not use the CN700 display driver it comes with, let XP use its default. but my screen is not as clear. i will flash to ver.1.07 to give it a try.

Ok so I got my BIOS sorted and now running ver 1.07 and happy to report that everything is working brilliantly. Had a play around in the BIOS and managed to get resume from standby in 15 sec. Which is rather sweet if I may say so!!!
