task bar shrinks when color scheme changed?

When I switch from the default blue XP color scheme my task bar shrinks to about half of its original size. Then it stays that way when I switch back to the default blue. The only way to get it to return to it's normal size is restore to a previous state using window system tools. I know another person who has the same setup as mine and his does it too. Is there a way to fix this as I'd like to have a gray color scheme.

that sounds weird. Any chance of a screen shot? Is anything else shrinking? Like your resolution is changing or screen positioning? By shrinking does it go to half it's size or is half lost on the screen?

It's like the resolution changes but the settings still show the same resolution and messing with the resolution settings doesn't change it. I'll try and get a snap shot of before and after the change so clarify. It just goes from say a 8 font to a 4 font and is so small I can't even read the clock.
